The Fire TV and Fire TV Stick are coming to the Fire TV Edition and the Fire TV Edition+ of Google TV with a new API for content creation. This will be a completely new system, but some of the code is already in place, making it easy to build content creation apps and services with Alexa and Google Assistant.

This article will explain how you can control the Fire TV Edition and Fire TV Edition+ with the Amazon Alexa skill or the Google Assistant. It will also show you how to create a unique Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice-enabled control interface on your Fire TV Edition or Fire TV Edition+ that can control your content. This guide will take you through how to set up a simple system to link your Fire TV with your Alexa device. We’ll cover your Fire TV’s IP address, setup the Alexa app and configure your links to work.

You’ll be connected to a network (your router) and two routers, so it’s a lot of moving parts to setup. You’ll want to make a note of the router you’ll use for your Linksys router and the Linksys router you’ll use for your other router. In this guide we’ll be setting up the Linksys router we’ll be using for the test device.

This guide assumes you have a current device connected to the internet. If you’re not connected to the internet, you’ll need to do a lot extra work.

Many people use a Fire TV to stream over the internet through their cable or satellite box. They use it as a media player without a computer to control it. This works for a lot of people but isn’t a good idea for a wide audience.

The more I researched the Amazon Fire TV Linking feature, the more it seemed like a bad idea. The feature didn’t live up to the hype (at least I haven’t heard that hype mentioned before). It didn’t enable ‘easy setup’. When you’re connecting to 2 different devices, you’re getting two versions of the same file, with different permissions, and a bunch of extra dependencies. And there’s no ‘credentials’ for the Alexa device that can help you to use it.
