“The industry has not always been strong: when the government got involved in the economy, the Internet went wild. ” said Stryer. “E-learning began as a hobby, and now it’s a business.
“In the 1990s we were awash in information. But in the last five years, because of the Internet, we’ve seen a decline. We’re seeing more and more people working for free or as a contract,” said Stryer.
“But we have a problem: the Internet seems to be the source of all evil in education,” said Stryer. “We have the best colleges, the best universities, the best online courses and the best universities to blame.
“What happens with online courses is that people don’t learn as well as they used to. It used to take 20 or 30 hours to learn something, but it takes a long time now for people to have to learn new material,” said Stryer.
“If you have an online course that’s very popular with students, you get a big boost in your enrollments. But it’s a false economy in education,” said Stryer. “The economy is booming for all things bad.
“This economy is so fragile that we are having to deal with an online-only college,” said Stryer.
“The government’s got to be very careful not to have too much control,” said Stryer. “But it’s not worth it. We’ve got to have some more control.

It was an accident waiting to happen for David Hsu. He was not a technical trader, and he had not been involved in the Candlestick Trading and Analysis trades for over 18 years. When his best trading performance was achieved in the stock prices of Apple and Microsoft a decade earlier, he tried the trade several times in the futures market.
The results were not very satisfying. One day when he traded Microsoft 100,000 shares of Apple, he actually made a loss amounting to $1,000,000.
He didn’t know it then, but his biggest opportunity was already taken. What he had done during his years of trading in the futures market had simply been an exercise in trial and error. And now, with his best possible trading performance achieved in the stock market, there was not much more left to do.
In the case of the futures market, there was a short list of about a dozen large Wall Street firms already involved in trading futures. The list included such large firms as Drexel Burnham Lambert, Fidelity Financial Services, and Morgan Stanley Dean Witter. In the case of the stocks, there were a few financial firms such as Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley, but more importantly there were many smaller financial firms, such as Goldman Sachs and Salomon Brothers.
Hsu wanted to find those firms that had a trading floor and a trading room that was large enough to handle the needs of a large trading floor, which was the first requirement.
For a few months he investigated these firms. Each of the large Wall Street firms had two trading rooms, and each of the smaller firms – all of whom had trading rooms – had one trading room.

In the futurism of Edward Tufte, for example, the word futurist indicates the futurist’s perspective on how technology is changing the world. In the futurist’s view, the term futurist has changed its meaning to become “the person who thinks or acts at futurist levels.
Futurology and futurism are concepts and theories used to characterize “future studies” that are based on the idea that things that are going on in the future will be different from what we currently know. In the old days, science and technology were seen to be separate; the science of science and technology were different from the sciences and technologies of the future; science technology had had the power of scientific proof (“the evidence for the possibility of scientific discoveries”), but the sciences and technologies of the future were different in a way that scientists in the present had not yet imagined. Scientists and technologists needed and needed to know about the future. Today, the terms science and technology have come to be used as being synonyms with the term futurist. But although both futurists and futurologists are in some sense futurologists, their concepts of science and technology are, more or less, quite different, and we will see the futurist’s approach to the future of technology as different from those of futurologists.
