Altcoins are cryptocurrencies that are not Bitcoin (BTC) or Ethereum (ETH). Altcoins are usually created by forking from the Bitcoin or Ethereum blockchains, or by launching a new blockchain with a different purpose or feature. Altcoins aim to improve upon the perceived limitations of Bitcoin and Ethereum, or to provide new or additional capabilities or use cases. There are tens of thousands of altcoins on the market, each with its own advantages and disadvantages.
