I’ve been working on the problem of the black hole in the centre of the Milky Way, since 1993. I had originally approached it from various angles, but with the help of many of you I have now settled down to one line, namely that the black hole is actually a point.

There has been some discussion about the possibility of an event horizon, and that is what I will present. In order to do that I must start by explaining to you briefly what a black hole is.

A black hole is a point of infinite mass. The mass of a black hole is the mass of the central mass. The point mass is the most massive point of any massive body.

A black hole of radius r is called a Schwarzschild black hole.

The black hole can be surrounded by gravitational material, or not.

The gravitational potential is the product of the gravitational mass and this density.

Here, r/GM is the Schwarzschild radial coordinate (the distance from the centre of the mass) and G is the gravitational constant (one is the gravitational “mass” and one is “energy”).
