The need for aerial video for real-time, high-resolution video surveillance applications is recognized, with a number of commercial applications, primarily in military, civil and intelligence-related applications. Commercial aerial video products can be broadly classified into two types—hardware and software. Hardware applications require expensive, large, costly video cameras with sophisticated image processing functions and expensive video signal processing hardware. The quality is often poor, and often the images are distorted and blurred. Software applications are cheaper and easier to use, but generally have limited functionality and usually require specialized software. However, a software platform must be provided which allows the system to send images to a remotely located computer for further processing. As the remote computer takes images at the desired resolution and rate, this gives rise to the concept of an in-flight, real-time, high-resolution video system.
In this article, we examine the use of a software platform as a basis for an in-flight, real-time, high-resolution visual surveillance system, incorporating aircraft vision and high-speed video processing. The proposed platform integrates real-time, high-resolution aerial video with an in-flight, low-resolution, fast real-time remote-control display and high-speed video surveillance camera system. The system uses a microprocessor to control the aircraft imagery, while a high-speed video processing unit is used to process the imagery. The system consists of the following hardware components: a low-resolution, high-speed video surveillance camera system; a microprocessor; a display; a high-speed processing unit; and an aircraft processing system having a video processor.
The system is a continuation of our work initiated over 10 years ago, focusing on the design and implementation of an in-flight, real-time, high-resolution visual surveillance camera system. The goal of the system is to provide emergency response, environmental monitoring applications involving the use of aircraft, and other applications as described above.

Edgybees: Real-Time Aerial Video Augmentation for Situational Awareness
Edgybees is an aerial video augmentation solution for military and commercial security agencies that lets you fly your drones remotely and easily from any location, and can even fly drones within the military lines in a very safe environment by limiting the risks of crashing and being detected by human sensors.
The edgybees system is composed of two types of hardware: One is the UASR, the UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) equipped with the camera and wireless sensors. It is carried by commercial aircraft such as Cessna, a commercial aircraft used by the U. Secret Service, and in a Cessna aircraft, it can fly over any urban area and see in all directions, and it can also detect the location and height of the target. The UASR is also equipped with a radio to communicate with other UASRs/SARs (Situated Airdeep Reconnaissance) and to communicate with the UASR. For military missions, the UASR would need to be equipped with a camera, an antenna, a wireless sensor and a radio. On the other side, the commercial UASR/SARs carry GPS and a receiver to track their own location within the environment. In addition to the two types of hardware, the edgybees system also has the hardware for the remote operation and control of the UASR. For example, the hardware stores the UASR’s camera image and sends information to the UASR’s radio.
Once the UASR is set down in the designated area, the edgybees system would transmit to it the image of the target. After a pre-defined time, the UASR’s camera would detect the target. The edgybees system is able to detect the location and height of the target through the UASR’s RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) and RFID-based radio communication (WiFi). In addition to the UASR/SAR, the edgybees system can also detect the UASR in the same manner.
The UASR/SAR in the edgybees system can perform a 360° surveillance of any area within the airspace of the UASR/SAR.
Tips of the Day in Software
I have to say, while I was watching the recent interview with Google VP of Engineering, Vic Gundotra, and listening to the questions from all over the place, I couldn’t help feeling a little sorry for the people who sit in the position of people without anything but “work” to do but have to worry about their companies and everything in their life, their families and the planet.
I had some time to just sit back, and while talking to Google, Vic got very candid about the things he’s been thinking about throughout his entire career, both in and outside of Google.
He talked about his experience walking through some of the toughest periods of his career, and how he found his way back to Google. He talked about his journey to the top leadership of Google, as well as how he was able to gain Google’s trust through his leadership actions. He talked about his journey back to Apple, as well as how he was able to gain that trust back as well.
But the thing that really stood out to me with Vic was what he talked about in the interview regarding what he learned as the CEO of his company, Google.
