A new research project from England’s Exeter University investigates a video game in which players learn what is happening around them by looking at the virtual landscape. The study reveals that nature and the game itself form a mutually reinforcing system. The researchers say that the game “may be of interest to those learning to look at the environmental system and the game itself.
The findings of the research were presented by David Cope as part of the “A New Nature” conference.
Cope is the Chief Executive of the Nature Conservation Alliance (Nca), a British charity that works to conserve the environment.
“We are the only scientific society to make such detailed and detailed research on the topic of how children and young people learn about nature,” says Cope. “The fact that this is the only research project that’s actually being done in the English-speaking world to date, and that it’s such a wide research project, is absolutely remarkable.
The research involved testing a system that can make sense of the virtual landscape that players see and see as real. The system relies on brain images to form a virtual world. In this virtual world, players must learn what is happening around them in each of 25 landscape vistas. They also must learn how to move through the landscape based on actions that they are already performing in the virtual world.
“We need to understand what is happening in the world, not just inside the brain,” says Alex Cope, one of the authors of the research and chief executive of the Nca. “We can’t learn what’s happening in the world without understanding it, which leads us to the second part of the research question. We need to understand how children learn to interact with the environment, the physical world. That’s the challenge that we’re facing today.
Cope notes that the project is the first of its kind in the English-speaking world.
“You have to go to different disciplines, go to university-based research institutions, go to specialist institutions and create something that is much broader and much more diverse. It is much more accessible compared to other countries,” says Cope.
The two other authors of the research are Christopher Denton and James W. McElroy, both from the University of Oxford.

The Red Dead Redemption 2 world was beautiful, to say the least. It was lush, lush, and lush. Beautiful, but not too pretty. The trees and the sky and the grasses were all just right. The birds were beautiful. The deer were good. The coyotes were not so bad. There were all types of animals that we could see. The people were nice, but they were nice for the most part. I’m not sure exactly where this story began, but it was sometime during the time of the horse race at the 1884 New York State Fair. The horse race was a major event which took place right next to the horse pens at the fairgrounds. The horse race brought people together from far and near. It was a big event. It was a big event for the horse owners, especially when they could find a horse that was not a race horse.
The horse race used to take place at the fairgrounds for several months. The event was held in one of those grandstands, the main grandstand. This was one of the two grandstands at the fairgrounds. In this article, I discuss my impressions of the educational value of VREs. I use the “Education” category of our Google Scholar page and my own research to do just that.
I was fortunate to attend a recent Microsoft Research Asia conference, which included several of the principal researchers from all around the world, including myself. This was my first exposure to the concept and practice of VREs, and a chance to hear that first-hand, as well as the results of my own research into the value of VREs.
Most of us have encountered the term “virtual reality”, at least a few times, and can clearly see that it is not the same as real three-dimensional space that is being seen or experienced. We have experienced the difference between a virtual space and our real three-dimensional world. For some, that difference is not immediately apparent. For others, it is more than obvious. The same goes for virtual ecologies.
For many people, what distinguishes VREs from a more familiar “virtual” space is the illusion of depth. We often use the word “spaces” to refer to “real” three-dimensional space. This is not a misnomer, and some of the best spaces on Earth come from virtual environments.
For many, the use of these terms for different things is an “old-fashioned” way of thinking. In the 1960s and 1970s, when many computer scientists began to understand the limits of three-dimensional computer science, it was possible to have a virtual space that was so immersive and compelling that the average person would be entranced. The idea seemed so simple and so obvious that no one could have expected to find a better, or different, word to describe it.
The first thing that strikes you about VREs and the education they serve, is how well they work. From the ground up, it’s extremely easy to teach virtual environments to people who are not comfortable with three-dimensional spaces. You can walk up to someone, see a virtual world that you are familiar with, and ask them to do something.
