Injuries in Electric Bicycle Collisions
On Friday, July 2nd, 2012 a man who called himself Mr. L was riding his bicycle on the sidewalk in front of an apartment complex in Forks Twp. There were children in the yard playing ball. L was traveling north on the sidewalk and he stopped his bicycle on the sidewalk in front of the apartment building. A man, who identified himself as Mr. B, started to walk on the sidewalk in front of the apartment building and Mr. L, the cyclist started to turn his bicycle so it was facing north. B was stopped by the bicyclist’s hand and he blocked his bicycle with his hand, and Mr. L started to turn his bicycle as he was still blocking the sidewalk. The bicyclist’s hand went in the side of the front wheel of the bicycle and then his bike was completely blocked by Mr. The bicyclist started to push his bicycle and he was struck by Mr. B’s bicycle and Mr. L’s bicycle.
The cyclist died at the hospital. A witness on the scene said that Mr. L shouted, “Hey man, you got any money?” and “Yo, you got any money?” as if he was threatening to kill another person.
No weapon was found on the bicycle. L was unarmed. In the opinion of the witnesses, Mr. L had not been speeding the bicycle, nor had he pulled out any weapon from his waist. The witness said that the handlebar of Mr. L’s bicycle stuck out and was sticking out.
L was found dead in his home in Forks Twp. B was arrested by the police and charged with murder. The charge was amended to manslaughter but he pleaded no contest to the lesser charge of recklessly causing death. This is a felony in the State of Minnesota. B is currently incarcerated.
