A few words of explanation.
I’ve been a Nintendo fan for as long as I can remember. I’ve been a Sega fan for as long as I can remember. I used to play many of the Sega Master System games (mainly Legend of Zelda and Sonic the Hedgehog) with my Dad in the late 1980’s. In my early teens I played a ton of NES games, and for around 10 years I tried to get into the Saturn and PS2. I’ve now spent a good portion of the past several years playing a variety of Sega and Nintendo games, but I must admit that I was never really that into any of them. I did play the NES games a little bit with my brother back in the early 1990’s, but in that instance he used a computer with a joystick. That computer was a Commodore 64 with a joystick on it and since I was not really familiar with a PC I used my brother’s PC as a joystick. So, overall, I was never really a gamer, at least not until I finally got the opportunity to play a few PlayStation 2 games this past March.
I was on my parents’ farm in late March when they told me that an old friend of theirs from the neighborhood computer store (the kind of place where there was a sales counter for all the computer accessories on display) was looking to buy a game console. I took the chance to find out if this friend could even play a game. After a couple months of this I got a chance to play a little Nintendo game in my house. I had found some extra disks in my dad’s computer, just as an experiment, and I installed them on my friend’s Gamecube. After a couple of days of playing the Gamecube I was hooked. I even wanted to play Super Mario Brothers. However, my friend was not interested so I had to get a better game. I wanted to play Crash Bandicoot. This was around the time that the Gamecube had taken off, but we managed to figure out that the best way to get Crash Bandicoot was to buy a Gamecube for Christmas and a Gamecube controller for Christmas too.
