It was only a matter of time before the Monarchs returned to the field. That was exactly what happened this August. It was the second time in five years that the Monarchs had made the postseason, and third time for three years in a row.
With two of their top four players playing for the NHL and the Calder Cup playoffs underway, the Toronto Marlies had been expected to be one of those teams to watch as the NHL and AHL play their best games of the season this season.
And the Monarchs certainly were not disappointed.
The Monarchs ended the season on a high in the regular season, but they came up short in the Calder Cup playoffs, falling to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on the second game of the best-of-seven series in Game 6 on Sunday night.
Here’s a look at what went into that series.
The Monarchs’ loss in Game 6 of the Calder Cup playoffs was the one that hurt the most.
The Monarchs came into this game off a pair of wins; the first one being in the first round of the Calder Cup Playoffs, the second came in Game 2 of the Calder Cup Playoffs. In that game, the Monarchs had the league’s best offence with just five goals. Their offense was great, as they scored a goal at the 15:10 mark of the third period that was followed up with a pair of 2-goal efforts in the final period.
In their own end, the Marlies went on to win Game 6 of the Calder Cup playoffs, but on a second straight night of playoff action, they fell to the Penguins in their best-of-seven series.
As many have noted, the game itself was very close. The scoreline was tied at 2 after 30 minutes of play, but a goal by Beal Smith gave the Monarchs a 3-2 lead over the Penguins in Game 6.
The Monarchs, the Takeaway.
The monarchs, the take away.
[b]There were two ways to do it. You could do as Mr. Halsey [or I] did and [you would] build a custom chip [and then] solder it to an ordinary processor. The other way was a little more risky. You would make a custom ASIC, [which] would have two processors and be essentially a dual-core chip. The advantage of doing this is there would be no need for a special chip and you would have a fully assembled platform. It’s also nice because a custom ASIC chip is so much cheaper than a custom processor. If you have your own ASIC chip, you can be really picky because there would be no need to source the chips that way.
As a software engineer, one of the easiest things to do is take the [i. C or C++] code, [or some] C++ code and [create] the hardware chip and then solder it to the motherboard or to the processor. Now you would have two problems that you had to solve and you didn’t want to do it that way. The first thing you would have to do was to make sure that you could do what the compiler had done. In other words, the compiler had made it so that you could assemble all the components and then solder them together to create the whole chip. So that’s the first thing you had to do; make sure that you could do this.
And that’s one of the reasons why there’s always the danger of making a custom ASIC chip if you had your own ASIC chip. I mean it’s impossible to make a custom ASIC chip with ASIC chips that are already out there. So there would be no need to make custom chips. On the other hand, if you were to just make a custom ASIC chip, you would have to do all this work yourself.
That’s a challenge in terms of custom chips in general, but it’s very easy to make a custom chip with standard chips that are out there unless you are really lucky.
