U.N. Peacekeeping Missions in the Middle East

Mayor Muriel Bowser recently proposed a law that would allow local government agencies—as long as they have not had their funding cut off—to make a donation to a charity of their choice in support of the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Middle East.
The law would require local agencies to notify U. government officials within 24 hours of receiving a request for donations, and Congress would vote on whether to approve the law, which the Senate is expected to consider this coming week.
According to a statement issued by Bowser’s office, the law would provide for “[o]ne public funding stream that can be used to help with the funding of U. peacekeeping missions in countries such as Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, and Iraq.
I love how Democrats and Republicans are now on board with the idea of military aid to the UN peacekeeping and humanitarian missions.
Nowhere is the question better exemplified than in the case of Saudi Arabia. At the same time, the Duterte administration’s own foreign policy is being questioned. Duterte has taken a conciliatory and “benevolent” attitude toward China, calling it a regional leader. The foreign policy of the Duterte administration is also being questioned as “strategic opportunism”. By contrast, the Philippine government has been accused of violating its obligations to its former ally, the United States. However, most of the government subsidies are not given to Filipino fishermen.
Some of the reasons for these subsidies include that Filipino fishermen are a small part of the overall fishing industry, and that they are not used to get loans from banks or government.
