After seeing a recent presentation by the automotive giant General Motors, I was inspired to find an inexpensive way to test the feasibility of the software-defined vehicle. How to successfully use new technologies to bring a new product to the market.

“Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) is the latest trend in the space and it has just been announced by the OEMs. The idea behind the SDV is to use the new platform and architecture to provide more control, flexibility, agility and improved performance than traditional vehicle platforms. Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) is being created through new application capabilities and platforms as a result of the industry’s needs. This will create opportunities for the OEMs to leverage their existing data processing, sensor, actuators and software expertise to develop real-time vehicle software applications. The SDV will be one of the best performing vehicles in the future and there will be numerous benefits it promises. In this webinar we will discuss how the SDV is starting to emerge as an alternative to the previous platforms with a focus on the key components that will be used to create the new SDV software platform.

In this webinar we will be discussing various aspects the development of the software platform and how this will change the industry. “One of the things we’re trying to do at wirelesscar is make smart cities that are more sustainable,” says Michael Peevey, Product Manager of the product suite of the Wireless Car Platform. Peevey is responsible for the design and development of what is perhaps the most significant product release—over 50 wireless car software and hardware applications available today, including a suite of “Smart Apps” with capabilities ranging from a high-resolution map of a city to a full-speed map of a transit network.

In October, the Wireless Car Platform will expand its Smart Apps to include a fully integrated suite of features, including a low-cost and low-power system to provide real-time data and wireless power to a car and fleet-connected devices. The first such system was installed in a Tesla Model S at the Auto Europe 2014 show, providing real-time location-based traffic and weather data, Wi-Fi hotspots around the car to allow for remote, autonomous, on-demand power applications and an onboard security system designed to deter potential attacks.

Wireless Car Platform’s Smart App suite is a single, integrated suite of applications and services designed to provide a vehicle fleet with data, information and connectivity as it travels through the urban landscape. These Smart Apps work in conjunction with Peevey’s Wireless Car Platform to provide a suite of capabilities ranging from a full city map, to a full-speed map of a transit network, to a high-resolution map of a city as well as a security and GPS-based GPS navigation system. Smart Apps are available for a wide range of car makes and models, including cars in the Tesla, GM and Lexus ranges, with a list that includes the BMW X6, Mercedes SLC, Mercedes GLK, Mercedes-Benz GLSK, Honda Clarity, Kia Sportage and the Nissan Leaf.

A car fleet can also be connected to SmartApps through a wireless gateway, and through Smart App “services” the fleet can access their data and information through the gateway.
