A new type of silicon chip is being developed by scientists at MIT that they say could be used to speed up the processing speeds of computers as well as provide a more compact option for computers. The chip’s material is made of a new type of silicon that is “extremely electrically insulating,” but which has some properties that would give it a “highly conductive” or “non-insulating” state. The chip could help speed processing tasks by increasing the speed of electrons moving past the chip. It also has an internal structure that could give it a more compact computer-size shape. This chip is called an “anisotropic metal-oxide semiconductor” or an AMOS-chip. The researchers believe that it could be used to build a faster computer than would be possible with traditional silicon chips or even a single, monolithic transistor. And it could be made to fit into a new type of package that would make it more suitable for larger computers. The researchers haven’t yet tested the chip, but say it could be produced by next year. The Tesla AI event is the world’s first of its kind focused on artificial intelligence built on a human-built platform, according to CEO Elon Musk. The event is the culmination of several years of work, and is the culmination of a long line of Tesla AI-related events that Musk has held on and off for the last few years.
The AI event is about building a machine that thinks like a person, writes Musk. “The AI event is designed to build a synthetic animal — a creature that thinks like a person — and it’s designed to show people how to build a synthetic animal.
The event will use a variety of AI techniques to create a computer that will be able to think and behave like a human being, and will demonstrate how a synthetic animal — such as a human — can be created and trained to behave in accordance with human-like norms.
“The AI event starts with a design and architecture problem, in which you think about how you build a machine that can talk and act like a human,” Musk writes. “You think about how you build a machine that can think and act like a human, with all the complexity that entails. And you think about how you build a machine that can think like a person.
“The AI event is designed to create a machine that thinks and acts like a person, and it’s designed to show people how to create a synthetic animal,” he adds.
The event will not be a competition, as Musk said. “It’s not an competition to build a better robot,” he said. “It’s an exploration of what a machine can do, and the people will build the machine.
“The AI event’s mission, as I see it, is to explore building a machine that thinks and acts like a person, and then to demonstrate and explain it. A synthetic animal is a fascinating concept, but it’s actually something quite different than a robot,” Musk adds.
The Tesla event will be held on January 29th at the South Park Studios in San Francisco.
