The Jaguars against the Bowling Green Falcons –
The Jaguars’ Way against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles
The Jaguars football team has had many struggles to find a consistent formula. When I first became a football coach in the late 70s, we had a team with a winning record. When I first entered an area, the school was known as the Bulldogs and we won a lot of games.
As a player who spent his entire college career playing in the same building as the Bulldogs and had the opportunity to play with two of the greatest quarterbacks in college football history, I knew that the players had different personalities. I had to change the way we competed and the way we talked to get us to work. The Bulldogs have a lot of “gruffness” and meanness in them that I cannot change. So much so that they became a part of the Jaguars game.
All the changes had to come from within.
The Golden Eagles have a style of football that is known as “The Jaguars Way.
The Golden Eagles were the first college football team to play the game like a regular, home team. At the time, the Jaguars were playing in an outdoor stadium in the basement of the Mississippi State University. All of the players were wearing red and they would wear blue during halftime. It was a time when the sports world was still going to college in the 70s. The Jaguars were the first team to play the game like a “regular” football team.
The Jaguars Against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles
The Jaguars, with a 3-1 record, have had a difficult week. On Thursday they beat the Tennessee Titans before losing to the Chiefs.
Then Monday night, the Jaguars suffered an embarrassing 24-20 loss at the Kansas City Chiefs.
While some fans are blaming the loss on poor offensive line play, and some are taking a different approach, I have been doing the opposite.
After last season, Jacksonville hired a new offensive line coach, and he’s gone about improving the team’s offensive line. The Jaguars’ biggest problem was on the offensive line, most notably at right tackle Matt Schiano.
I have been watching every Jaguars offensive lineman that have come through Jacksonville, and the first two have been a success story. They were both traded in the offseason, but they still came on strong for the Jaguars.
The first offensive lineman to come through Jacksonville came in the form of the first team draft pick, the sixth overall selection, Matt Schiano. Schiano is a left tackle who played in high school as well as college. However, the offensive line was the biggest problem for Jacksonville, which was the biggest problem for the Jaguars, and it’s one that has been solved with Schiano.
Schiano started the previous season, playing well after making his first full year with the Jaguars. However, he was slowed down by injury all season, and he only played 12 snaps.
As the season progressed, Schiano grew in confidence and played more. After playing the first half with 10. 5 sacks on the season, he finished with 28 on the season. He wasn’t quite the player that his offensive line coach thought of for his first full NFL season, but Schiano had the right combination of experience and youth to be an impact player.
The second offensive lineman to come through Jacksonville was the seventh overall selection, Brad Meyers. Meyers was a former quarterback who played at the U. Army and Oklahoma State.
