Wanted to help improve the quality of sleep, Dr. Wager said, “We can’t really do that by just throwing more pills down the throats of patients.
So, he and a team of researchers examined what was happening in some U. health care clinics. They found that doctors weren’t giving patients the recommended amount of sleep. Instead, they were prescribing more stimulants and mood stimulants to help patients fall asleep, when it was the other way around.
What the researchers found was that as health care services became more and more specialized, patients began receiving more prescription drugs to help them fall asleep.
Wager said, “This is a bad situation. There’s no way that people can get sufficient sleep to maintain their health.
But to make matters worse, insomnia is so common that many patients do not even receive all of the care doctors have prescribed.
