One of the first formal methods that has been applied in the domain of system design is the Unified Modeling Language (UML) . The main purpose of UML is to group the concepts into different classes to allow for a systematic mapping of the concepts to a logical representation. One of the concepts included in UML is the “system” and “domain” where the concept of the system is represented as a class and the domain refers to the environment in which the system must operate: for instance, it could refer to the context in which the system ‘in’ the system domain.
