Mandiant Threat Intelligence Detects a New Family of CLFS Exploits Windows Common Log File System.

Mandiant Threat Intelligence Detects a New Family of CLFS Exploits Windows Common Log File System. Windows Common Log File System (CLFS) is a popular file system built in Windows XP. It is a file system that is designed to provide a log file to Windows developers so that they can create logs to be useful to developers. However, due to the popularity of Windows XP, the file system has been used by a variety of malware and hacking code that is designed to hide themselves from antivirus software. If a user knows about a suspicious program, they can easily find it and then they will be able to discover the true purpose of the file. Mandiant Threat Intelligence has identified a new family of malware that uses the same file system. This new family also comes with a new design that makes the malware more difficult to find. This article describes one of the malware families that uses the Windows Common Log File System (CLFS).

When Microsoft released Windows XP in May of 2001, they added a new file system that was not designed for the file structure originally intended by the developers. Many of the original developers never used the new file system and they would rather spend the time creating their logs if it is possible. The first major change would occur in April of 2002 when Microsoft made a decision to make the file system more compact to make the file system more usable for developers instead of more compact for system administrators. However, the file system has continued to be used by hackers to hide their malware or malicious code because of the simplicity of the file system, even though no malicious code would ever run on the file system.

In June of 2002, Microsoft released Windows Vista, a new version of Windows that changed the file system to provide a more compact structure for developers. However, this change was not made to the file system that was originally designed to provide logs for the entire system to log to.

One year later, in December of 2003, Microsoft released Windows 7, the final version of Windows that was designed to improve performance and ease the use for system administrators and developers. This version of Windows 7, the Windows Common Log File System (CLFS), was designed to provide log information instead of the original file system.

After the recent publication of the NSA’s PRISM program, a new study published this week by the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) shows that the bulk collection of internet logs from service providers is not a new phenomenon. The new analysis examines how many records were produced by both the PRISM program and the NSA-operated Prism ii program.

The result: Nearly 5 million pages of data were collected from over 30,000 Internet Service Providers (ISPs).

While the amount of data was relatively small, an analysis of the data and the content reveals that, over the past year, the collection methods, the type of content accessed, and the data types collected are remarkably similar. This was true both for the PRISM program (with metadata on the IP addresses) and for the Prism ii program (with metadata on the files).

However, the scope of the PRISM program was larger, more comprehensive, and more accurate, which created a challenge for the analyst. The analysts in the PRISM program had to carefully manage the metadata and extract the information from the large volume of data they received from the ISPs.
