The July security updates for Windows 10 have been released, and it is now possible to no longer print anything on some systems. It is of course not possible to print on all operating systems, but the release of some of the updates has had the desired result.

The update procedure applies regardless of if the system has a local or remote printer. It’s important to note that the July security updates will apply to both local and remote printers. However, printers that are set up to use remote printers, and have the Windows Print Setup feature enabled, will not be updated or updated to receive one of the July security updates.

Local printers will not receive this update until the update is installed; therefore, if a local printer has the Windows Print Setup enabled, it will not receive an update. If a local print server prints to a different device than the local printer, the device will not receive an update.

The operating system can be queried at System Control Panel to find the details of the printers.

In addition to local printers, Windows 10 will also update Remote Print Devices, which are servers connected to the Internet that provide print services to local network printers.

This update is required to connect remote printers to local printers. When Windows 10 is first installed a remote printer will not recognize the installed driver. However, the remote printer will accept the remote driver in order for it to be recognized by the local printers. The local and remote devices are identified by the local printer name.

The Windows OS will now recognize the remote printer as a local printer automatically. If the driver is installed on the remote printer the printer will accept the new driver. It will also update the driver automatically and update the driver.

Note: The local printer is not automatically updated when the device is connected to the internet.
