The Volvo Group is in the process of developing the Volvos that will be targeted for the next generation of commercial vehicles. We already have some of them on the market. Today’s example is the new-generation Volvo XC90 SUV and the second generation of the Volvo S80 hatchback, already in the process of being produced. Last year, we were pleased to welcome the first Volvo S82 convertible model. As we also look forward to welcoming the second generation of the Volvo XC90 SUV soon, we thought it would be interesting to share another early step.
The Volvo XC90 will be introduced next year as a competitor to the Ford Mustang Hybrid. In an effort to provide customers with more space and an improved driving experience, Volvo will offer a compact hybrid version of its latest generation XC90 SUV for the European market. The car will be sold with either a battery pack or a fuel cell system, and has a hybrid powertrain that will provide approximately 250 hp of power and about 120 hp on the gasoline engines. The Volvo XC90 will be able to hit 120 km/h on the highway.
For the coming years, the Volvo XC90 will be a Volvo. However, as we have mentioned several times in this blog, the company has started to explore ways to go pure electric, since the powertrain for this model is about 40% more expensive than the diesel versions of this model. The Volvo XC90 will not replace gasoline engines for commercial vehicles. But it is in fact a different type of vehicle, which might be targeted for the near future.
Volvo will be using LiDAR for the next generation Volvos. For the development of the system, Volvo’s Center Automotive Technologies Laboratory (CATL) will be in charge of the development of its system, which was the subject of a study recently conducted jointly with the University of Michigan and the Volvo Institute of Technology in Sweden. The system will be called BTS and will be the part of the hybrid electric powertrain. BTS has been designed for the future and will be able to operate autonomously on the road. BTS will be based on sensors and the latest technology of LiDAR.

The latest safety feature from Volvo Cars has been introduced into the Volvo Car HVF V50 sedan. The safety technology combines both sensors with intelligent software, a new feature that was first used to identify cyclists on the front of the car. To date, the safety technology has been implemented on the car for the first time, and so we’re going to take the opportunity to explain how the integration works.
The integration of both sensors and intelligent software was in reality a new development for Volvo Cars. It is based on the idea that a vehicle will have many different possible interactions with the outside world, and if each interaction is different from the previous, the vehicle then needs to be able to separate the signals. By doing this, the driver and the vehicle itself are able to be a bit less sensitive to the situation and its impact on the vehicle. So the sensors and the software have to be able to handle a big variety of situations that occur, so that it is not hard to separate what the interaction is.
The system is also more advanced, and incorporates some intelligent features, which are explained bellow.
Head-up Display: Display the current position based on the latest information from sensors.
Auxiliary Camera: Display the new information from the sensors as the driver is driving.
These new sensors are only going to be installed on Volvo Car vehicles in the upcoming years, but we’re only going to use them for a short test.
The system is also going to use the Volvo Car Navigation System with its three different screens. The navigation system is used to display information for the driver and the car from the front-view.
A first intelligent process is used to identify the driver. The software first finds the driver’s position using the sensors and then adds the driver’s information in a map.
A second intelligent process is used to identify the car or the driver and the new information. And the software identifies the car, the driver, as well as the information that the driver is sending to the navigation system.
The system also introduces new rules that are able to differentiate between different situations.

In the case of Russia’s application of a law that would require auto manufacturers to make cars for sale in China, China would like to work with Russia to ensure that it does not use an illegal requirement.
While the automobile industry is trying to work its way into China, the country’s domestic car manufacturers are not. Currently, Chinese automakers are not allowed to export their models to the United States, but the Chinese government is working to encourage the export of models to the European and African markets in order to increase the sales of Chinese cars in these countries.
