The US and other Western nations believe that Pakistan’s economic progress is fueled by the country’s rapid innovation in technology-enabled exports and increased market presence in the region. Islamabad and the United States have also worked together during the past decade to develop the region’s information technology industry.

The country’s exports of software and services are expected to increase annually for the next seven years. This was the expected outcome of a five-year US-Pakistan Economic Partnership Agreement (EPSA) between the two countries. It was also the result of US assistance to Pakistan’s $14 billion IT services industry, which is one of the fastest-growing sectors in the country. [1] The agreement was signed with the support of the US Embassy in Islamabad in 2005 and was implemented in 2010, following an agreed US-Pakistan goal to “develop the economic, political, and security cooperation to promote growth for both countries.

Following the 2007 Pakistan General Elections, the agreement has now been implemented for five years with an expected boost of US $1908 million in annual exports. The agreement was signed in October, 2009 and was implemented in June, 2011.

Pakistan is expected to gain in terms of exports from the US $1908 million, with more than $7 million coming in from the services sector. These services are expected to grow by more than $4 million per year and add to the GDP growth.

The US and Pakistan are working together through the United States-Pakistan Joint Economic Partnership, which aims to develop a balanced, constructive strategic partnership between the two countries. Through the United States-Pakistan Partnership Program, both the countries signed the first joint economic pact in 2010.

The US-Pakistan Partnership Program began in 2010 with US $50 million for Pakistan’s IT services, and the agreement is expected to continue to include US $90 million in annual payments to Pakistan, which would help it expand its services industries. The ESPA between the two countries has been a long-term commitment of US-Pakistan.

This is a small article that I wrote the day I met my wife. I was visiting her in Finland. After several weeks we found time to meet up and then we hit the road together. I had no idea how I was going to say goodbye to her that day. I am usually more positive than she is. But somehow, this day, I said goodbye very differently. I was very sad and I asked myself “Did I do the right thing, or did I do the wrong thing?”.

I am really bad at saying goodbye. So many people I’ve met have asked me for my name or my phone number or my address. And in the end I just give a polite goodbye.
