With the league now in a transition period, owners and players are attempting to find a way to return the league to the days of glory following a championship season in the 1990s. The league and ABC have entered into an agreement to air the NBA on ABC on the television networks by May 2019. While the NBA has a history of television rights issues, there is no indication that a return to ABC will have any effect on the league’s ability to market to its fans. The league maintains rights to the NBA’s home games for ABC (ABC Sports) and Fox (Fox Sports) while the cable network channels are free of the NBA’s broadcast rights.
