Spanish Dogfighting
On the night of 13 November 2006, a large-scale dogfight took place in Gijon, southern Spain. Twelve dogs were entered by the police, with each dog being accompanied by both a police dog and a private dog. The fight was carried out by a ring of private dog fighters, many of whom had been involved in previous dogfighting rings. Several owners admitted their involvement in the fight and were arrested, while one person was killed. On 19 August 2006, the Spanish authorities charged eight dogfighters with murder (six men and two women).
The suspects are suspected of killing one of the dogs at the scene and wounding or killing another one of the dogs. The Spanish government’s investigation into the dogfight was carried out under the authority of the Spanish Ministry for the Interior and the Justice. In early September, the Spanish Prime Minister, José María Aznar, called for an investigation into the dogfight, and a week later, Spain’s Chief of Police, Luis Montiel, announced the formation of a special commission. In the first few months, the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of the Interior together attempted to establish a full account of the events that took place on 13 November 2006. The two government ministries failed, and so did the Spanish parliament, which took no action so far.
In late November, the Minister of the Interior, José María Aznar, stated in a speech to a meeting of Spanish officials, “We have the best team to handle this problem. We have a plan, an action plan, and we will take action. ” On 20 November, the Minister of Interior and justice, José Luis Álvarez, reiterated the government’s position, stating, “we need to take action”.
The investigation into the dogfight began in mid-December, with police dogs from several police commands and the Spanish dogfighting investigation body, Canis Istmo, as a part of the investigation. On 7 March 2009, the Canis Istmo investigators submitted their final report. The investigators concluded that the fighting ring was operated by four private dogfighters from Barcelona and had been responsible for the deaths of five dogs, four of which had been surrendered by owners who were killed themselves.

I have to say I am disappointed by the lack of transparency for the arrest of these 23 people. They were allegedly part of a criminal organization which held themselves out as veterinarians. The fact that the alleged leader of this group was arrested and the alleged ringleader is still on the loose adds to the impression that the Australian government is not able to be held to account.
It is obvious from the videos that a very large number of participants in these dogfights are people who had themselves come from one of the countries where this type of crime is carried out.
For instance, a person who did not belong to the alleged criminal organization could have taken part in the illegal dogfights and not just go along to play the role of a handler and trainer.
The lack of transparency in the arrests made by the police and the lack of transparency in the trial process are an indication of how deep is the problem of animal welfare protection in Australia.
“The Department of Environment and Climate Change in Victoria, Australia does not have a centralised system for coordinating the welfare of all animals and as a result there are large gaps in the monitoring and enforcement of the laws.
“The current system of inspections and reporting is inadequate to monitor and enforce the laws and to protect animal welfare.
“There are several problems that need to be addressed.
“There is a lack of transparency in the process, many of the people who are involved are not directly accountable, and it is very difficult to get a quick and clear picture of any crimes being committed.
“As a result, there have been multiple raids and arrests of animal caretakers, the most serious being the arrest of a veterinary officer and other members of the security forces in one raid.
“As a result of the inadequate oversight, the government cannot fully understand what is going on and has no information to provide to people and the community.

Case of a dog-killing experiment
In July, 2017, two British researchers announced that they had successfully reproduced a terrifying and controversial human-based experiment. The experiment, involving a “live animal”, was carried out in the early 1940s, and aimed to ascertain whether dogs were capable of being trained to execute human-style attacks. But critics now decry the experiments as “a modern day experiment that was only possible with the permission of a scientist. ” They point out that while some dogs have done worse than humans in the laboratory, scientists in the 1940s, and even today, can breed dogs to resist human testing.
The experiment was performed in a large enclosed area, where human-animal interaction was conducted for between one and three hours. People were fitted with electrodes (or, in the case of humans, were drugged) and “trained” to behave aggressively, and then “selected” to act as targets by their behavior. The selection, which was largely unconscious, required participants to perform the behavior they were instructed to do. The purpose of the experiment was to determine whether dogs could be trained to fight by humans in the dark. The experiments’ results were not conclusive, and so the experiment was terminated in 1939.
But even as the experiment was underway, critics began to question its validity. In particular, the researchers were criticized harshly for using dogs, rather than animals, to perform the behavior. Critics point out that if a dog had been put through the same tests as the experiment, the outcome would have been the same; dogs “don’t care” as much about being vicious as much as they do about being human. While some people found the experiment’s findings to be dubious, it is widely believed that the scientific community, both in Britain and the United States, was more interested in the science than in the consequences of their “dog experiment”.
Today’s critics have expanded on the issue by questioning the ethics of the experiment in a broader context. In a recent book, The End of Animals, they point out that dogs have been bred to be aggressive, and, as a result, are capable of being trained to fight.
Tips of the Day in Network Security
Security professionals need to stay alert to threats, incidents, and vulnerabilities. Unfortunately, it is also important to stay up to date with technology, such as security threats, which can be a good thing and, at the same time, cause confusion.
As an IT security professional myself, I know how challenging it can be to stay up-to-date on all the latest threats or issues affecting security. I feel that the best way to do this is to create a list of what I see as the top and worst threats, issues, and vulnerabilities of the day, and then watch for trends and trends that can help spot threats in the future.
By “top” and “worst,” I mean threats, issues, and vulnerabilities that I feel are of the highest interest or concern to security professionals. Examples of the “top” threats I’ve noticed include ransomware which is gaining increasing popularity; a malicious “rootkit” for which there are two types, but which is also gaining mainstream acceptance; and the latest attack that targeted banking institutions.
