A community grief group is a group of people who have recently stopped on a vacation to a tourist destination in hopes of getting some kind of closure from their loved one. I thought I would share this article on our community grief group, called Savannah Art Galleries. I’m Kimberly Riner, one of our members who is a visual artist. She has lost her father, my father. She was going into her senior year of high school when he passed away that October. We were at our church services that Sunday and I was sitting in the pew praying. I felt something, maybe it was sadness, but I wanted to do something with this, to try to help us all and, at the same time, trying to create a community. So I started our gallery here in the church pews, and my mom began selling pieces. We had a few, but were so overwhelmed with the demand that we had to expand. So as we continue to expand our community grief group, we’ve decided to create a space to create a space specifically for community grief in the community (that is, for those of you who are grieving for someone who has passed) and we’re doing it with this wonderful group called Savannah Art Galleries. My husband, Chris, has been working in this community grief group for about 6 months and, at first, we thought it would be a great way to keep ourselves busy and, at the same time, help us create a space in the community for someone to show their art. So as we look to expand our studio space and as we also look to add more members, we have decided, because of that, to make a membership application, so we can start to get more folks in there, as well as, eventually, if we have the funds, to build out our studio space.

My first thought when I saw this blog post was to think of the other art galleries in the church that make a point of serving community grief in our church. Savannah Art Galleries is a beautiful addition to the community grief group. It’s a beautiful group.
