Article full text: | We all know that stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) is a great sport for anyone with at least a basic level of fitness to get started with. Although its popularity as a sport and mode of ocean transportation is on the rise, a lot of people still find they have to go to the store every time they want to get a SUP because there are not a lot of stores close by to where they live. So when we saw the stand-up paddleboard (Argo in its two designs which are the Classic and the Pro) for the first time we were instantly drawn in, but not just because of the price, or the design, we were also intrigued from the standpoint of being able to be in control of our paddle stroke and also be in control of the SUP board. That was the first really good point of the Argo. The second one we can’t say enough about is that the Argo has a much easier to use throttle, which automatically adjusts the throttle to the boat speed. This is a huge plus for any SUP or scooter, especially our younger kids, because they are always looking for new ways to be adventurous. There was also a cool feature that we didn’t expect, which was that the Argo has a built in GPS system so a person would not need to be able to be on the water with a GPS receiver to be able to navigate the Argo. We will have more on this feature in a different article on our website. We were also really impressed by the ease of purchase, how quickly it arrived in our town. This was another really big plus for the Argo and we can’t say enough about how impressed we were with the Argo’s customer service. It was a real pleasure to deal with the Argo on our purchase and also on the delivery process. Even though it was a little cold that day in our hometown, when it came time to return the Argo, our young son thought he had to have it when he realized that the Argo comes with the batteries already charged in it, and that it didn’t need to charge the batteries before it went on the water. We are now very excited about buying a new Argo as well as thinking about what we would like to have on the Argo.

Article full text: This month’s Tech Report brings us yet more examples of the folly of trying to “re-think” computers. This time, it’s IBM’s IBM-PCjr, from 1982. The company has been out of the computer business since 1987, but the chip that drives its IBM PCjr remains the same IBM chip it began manufacturing in 1979 — the same chip made by Texas Instruments, making the chip called the 8088. IBM has taken its 8088 chips out of the computer business, and has instead put the work on the 8085 from the 70s and an 8086 chip from the 80s. But while the PCjr is in the recycling bin, the IBM chip has been resurrected, now found in a new IBM chip called the POWER series. POWER is an acronym for Power Microprocessor. IBM wants to be known as PowerPC, the Power Microprocessor, and it wants to be known as IBM POWER. So what are the IBM chips, and why are they resurrecting a dead IBM chip of all things? They’ve never had a big sale, and their only other known product is a battery-powered toy, and it doesn’t work very well as a battery-operated toy. So what made IBM change its mind? I don’t think IBM had any choice.
