Computer use is governed by a variety of agreements, a large percentage of which involve security, and many of which have specific requirements as regards to both software licenses and software compliance. In many cases these agreements are incorporated into the software license, and provide that any license or agreement containing an obligation not to disclose or use a particular type of software product or service must not be modified in any way.

As a practical matter, most commercial software products/services are shipped as complete, complete software products/services. Typically software products/services also include all necessary documentation for use, including application specifications or procedures (also called “documentation”). Software products/services are therefore often shipped with all components such as software product, operating system, user interfaces, and so on, all compiled together as a package.

In many cases, these combined products of software are shipped in a single physical box, with a single copy of the OS image and software applications/services, all contained in a single physical package. In many cases, the OS image is delivered with all associated documentation. The OS image may contain different versions of software, which may be separately downloadable, installed, and used.

In many cases, software license agreements do not require the end customer to be responsible for installation of the software, OS images, and associated documentation. Tips of the Day in Computer Networking

This is Part 2 where I present a few tips and tricks for network engineers that may also be applied to network administrators. To be clear, I have said a few of these tips here before, so you can skip over these.

I have always said that it is more important to do the “what can you do” than it is to do the “things that can’t be done”. In other words, you should always try to find the silver bullet to get all the things that can’t be done. Of course, this has been in the industry for a while and we find that it is hard to find these “things that can’t be done”. We have, however, come up with a way to do them and we are trying to help with this.

Let’s take a look at some of them.
