The spread of the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has forced to an unprecedented shutdown of all non essential business activity across the globe. As of 31st March 2020, worldwide non-essential business activity is limited for all employees, and it is likely that many will have to self-isolate for a period of time to minimize the spread of the disease. For those who are unable to work remotely due to work requirements, this means that an increasingly large proportion of the workforce will be unable to pursue their careers and receive their education.

Although there might be job openings for those who are unable to do so, these positions will not be filled with the highest proportion of qualified candidates and will need to be sourced from other sources. Also, as a proportion of the workforce, the need to maintain personal distance and social distancing is imperative to limit transmission of the disease. In addition to this, many employers are also forced to postpone the start of their recruitment process.

Many of the world’s most prestigious public sector organisations have, thus far, been in the position of announcing job openings of those who are medically unable to do so. In the United Kingdom, government departments have so far announced that there will be no hiring of teachers from the Covid-19 school closure and the National curriculum for the year 2020.

In a time of extreme need, people are drawn to work, and the need to find a job is often at its height. In response, companies all over the world have stepped up to fill their workforce with candidates; however, they are doing so in a way that is highly unethical in terms of how they are hiring people. Also, as mentioned earlier, many of the world’s most prestigious public sector organisations have been in the position of announcing job openings of those who are medically unable to do so. In the United Kingdom, government departments have so far announced that they will not be hiring teachers from the Covid-19 school closure and the National Curriculum for the year 2020.

I’m sure A-B Tech’s director of educational partnerships, Professor Dr. Fairley Patton, is aware that the world has not heard from you in two years. As our chief academic advisor, you are responsible for developing and implementing programs of study within a University that may well change a number of our student‘s lives. In that sense, you are in a very unique position to affect the lives of thousands of students. You will not always get the acknowledgement from us that you deserve, and we don’t want it. Our primary concern is to make sure that the programs of study you develop are as good as they can be. It is hard for us to get the word out about your programs, since we don’t know any more about them than we did a year ago.

Professor Fairley Patton is a professor of English at the University of Tennessee. He is an expert in the study of Shakespeare. He is the author of several highly acclaimed scholarly works and of numerous articles and essays. Professor Fairley Patton is the current president of the Modern Language Association. The MAA is an international organization of scholars who study contemporary and classical English literature and language. The MAA is a nonprofit corporation that includes two professional divisions and more than 150 programs of study. The Modern Language Association’s mission is to promote academic excellence, scholarship, and diversity.

Fairley Patton lives in Knoxville, Tennessee.

I had the distinct pleasure of visiting Professor Fairley Patton over the past two years. I was honored to introduce him to you. We had an incredibly interesting and productive conversation that touched on many very personal topics.

It was truly an honor to meet you and your organization.

Now, for those who might be interested, please take the time to read the following excerpts from our telephone conversation. I do not wish to imply that I have been biased in any way in any of my responses to you or your organization. I do believe that I have acted with integrity and tried to provide accurate information. And I would like to point out that the statements I have made were based on actual coursework, not just the opinions of my own department.

Shelby Harris: Brings out trash-talk!

“I was born in a small house in a rural area of Tennessee, not far from the famous Tennessee River,” wrote Harris earlier this year, “but because of the large and growing number of people from the city of Memphis, I still feel very much in this country.

Harris is a very successful American TV producer; and he brings out some of the trash-talk—the kind of trash-talk that, if properly worded, can sometimes be a powerful force in getting viewers to turn to other channels on their own dial. Yet he often seems oblivious to his own impact.

“There’s been a lot of talk about what’s ‘tacky’ about ‘The Flintstones,’” he says wryly, noting that “‘The Flintstones’ is the first ‘The Flintstones’ made,” a comment that the author of the famous script, Elmore Leonard, would later be responsible for making. He’s also aware of the popular “‘The Flintstones’ is an all-time classic TV series,” and if he’d had a television at age 15, this particular statement would have been made quite distinctly.

But there’s nothing remotely trashy about this show—not if you consider trashiness the act of destroying a fine piece of entertainment entirely. Like most successful TV shows, “The Flintstones” has been a success in spite of its flaws; it’s the fact that it has been entertaining from the start that makes it different from most other shows.

Like “The Flintstones,” “The Flintstones” doesn’t attempt to re-create any particular moment; its goal is to entertain people the way they react to watching the same old shows that have been done before, with the exact same actors, the exact same set, and the exact same story, for years.

The “Flintstones” are not the most beautiful of TV sets. They do little to add to the excitement of watching a TV show. They look like that old, big, flat, and uninspired one you’d see in a video game.
