I’m really looking forward to seeing the next generation of languages take off. This year, I will not have any complaints about the fact that JavaScript (the future JavaScript) didn’t get its new shiny C++-y cousin. C and C++ are both excellent languages, of course, but they are very different beasts.

The C++ folks say that because C++ is a more powerful language it can do more things, whereas JavaScript is just a “pure function language”. This makes sense because the core of C++ consists of a lot of functions and a lot more code which is written in an inefficient imperative style.

I’m not going to attempt to disprove that statement, since I’ve never really bothered to really think about the details. What I will try to do is show the differences between the two languages and give you some tips of the day. I hope you’ll take some of my tips and use them in your own programs.
