A survey of the accounting software providers that provides accounting software development services was conducted in August, 2011 by Software Accounting Magazine and Information Center for Entrepreneurship. The survey revealed that the accounting software providers provide accounting and financial reporting services for both small businesses and large companies, and accounting software that is used in their business operations is an important source of revenue.

The survey found that most accounting software providers offer accounting services in six main areas: accounting for business operations and costs, financial reporting services, finance and tax, financial analysis services, payroll and labor and employment accounting, and general project management services. Software that was found not to be used in their business practices by the survey respondents was the accounting system used for their business.

The top four software accounting service providers are Accenture USA Inc. , IBM Global Services Corp. , Hewlett-Packard, and PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. Other notable companies with accounting software are Deloitte & Touche LLC, Chartwell, EY, Deloitte Consulting Firm, International Business Corporation (IBM) Consulting, Cognos Business Systems Inc. (Cognos), and Intershop.

Each of the surveyed accounting software providers offered a range of accounting and financial reporting services varying from general accounting to specific areas such as payroll and labor.
