Sixteen European projects in Latin America and six in the Middle East and Africa were studied. In addition, seven U. companies were interviewed in order to analyze the role they played in the project development. The analysis of the project profiles showed that the projects were generally of low complexity. However, there were a few projects that were very complex and of high complexity. The project development tools used in Latin America were not the most developed in North America. The interviews of project developers showed that the Latin American countries have fewer project developers than any other region. Only one of the project developers felt that the number of project developers in Latin America is sufficient. However, most of the project developers would like to see a larger number of project developers.
Over the last 40 years, the development of the project-based infrastructure has continued to evolve due to changing business requirements. There is now a greater demand for cost-effective and flexible project information systems that can be used in a wide variety of companies. This paper presents a study of the project development that was undertaken to analyze the features of such projects while offering a view of the emerging project landscape.
