Bronx Inmate Captained After Escape From Barge Prison
After eight years in prison, a man charged with escape from a barge jail on a city waterway is in custody, a borough cop said.
The man escaped after a nighttime trip last week from the Bayonne Waterway to the Bronx.
The man, 21, a minor, is now in custody.
No injuries were reported, and the man, who was not charged, was taken to police headquarters in Manhattan, according to police.
A barge-bound boat loaded with prisoners was towed to the waterway late last week and the man jumped over the side. Police said the escape occurred at around 4:30 a.
Borough Lockspree Lt. Thomas Brennan said a boat was taken to shore but the man jumped over the side.
“There were no injuries on the boat or on the individual. He made his way over the waterway and onto the riverboat and tried to get into a boat but was unsuccessful,” he said. “He ran through the barge and onto the river and was captured.
Borough Police said no arrests have been made in the cases of the escapees.
“The barge being used was inspected and in good order and we did not make arrests for the escape because we did not observe any injuries, or any signs of injury,” Mr. Brennan said.
Comments: I don’t blame them for giving the guy a break. He was caught in the act, they could very well have been in a worse mess than that. What they really need to do is arrest the wrong people.
I guess the biggest mistake on this whole thing was putting this in the news. It’s no big deal to the world. They are more likely to have a criminal record at the next intake.
People that do this are just doing it to themselves. It is no different from people that steal from houses to live off of.
But let’s say there is a potential for abuse.

[NYPD] — A parolee has been apprehended after jumping parole violation, according to a statement released today by the Bronx District Attorney’s Office.
According to the statement, the suspect was arrested at about 10:20 a. on Hudson Avenue in the Bronx. The suspect was a 28-year-old man, who had escaped from a city-run halfway house in the city of Syracuse, New York, and was on his way to a home on Hudson Avenue in the Bronx.
The suspect was located by the New York City Police Department (NYPD) and arrested at about 10:55 a. on Hudson Avenue.

The FBI has had informants since the late 1980s. In the late 1990s, agents began taking people off the streets. The FBI informants were “undercover agents,” as Rothkopf puts it in the book. But Rothkopf does not say who these informants actually were or where they are today. They don’t work undercover.
David Rothkopf spoke to a blogger who asked him to give a full interview to a reporter.
Rothkopf describes how “David” the informant was recruited by the FBI. “His name is Michael David,” Rothkopf writes, “and he works for the Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which is known for its surveillance programs. ‘He was an informant for a long time,’ according to the government.
