The first ever telecom minister of Gujarat, Ashwini Vaishnaw, has arrived and has been seen here for short while. As a new government is being formed in Gujarat, Ashwini is in the unique position of being able to put the new government in a strong position to get the state of telecom in such an early stage. It was a bold move to get Vaishnaw into this position since he was a telecom minister for 13 years until he was transferred out of the department in December 2013. This is because of him working with the likes of Pranab Mukherjee, J. Nageswara Rao, and Nirmala Sitharaman, with whom all three of them had worked earlier, and with whom he had worked with for a few years.

I would like to thank Manish Kasaravalli, Kesarbai, Kishore, and Dr P. Subramaniam for working so hard on this project and getting the project to this stage. This is a project that was not easy and it took the entire team of Ashwini, Kishore and Dr. Subramaniam a lot of time to get this started. Ashwini is going to be a part of this government and I think that is a great honour for his service in the telecom department. When the government of Gujarat sets up the new government, they need a team that they have got, and Ashwini is that team. His leadership qualities are in good form and all of us hope he has a very good opportunity to be around.

Today’s announcements made today will not only help in laying the foundation for a new telecom system, they will also be good news for the new government. The team which is formed in the first week of the new government will be in a position to take forward the reforms needed for the next big step they take now. I don’t think we are going to have another minister like Ajit Vyas for much time, because he is going to be busy with his own reforms and he is not going to be available as a minister.

There is a very high chance that we are in for a period of high activity in the IT industry. As per the Indian Council of Advanced Scientific Research (ICASR), over 85% of papers published are in IT related journals. There are also growing awareness levels amongst academic and research communities. The Indian Society for Information Technology (ISIT) is working with an IT committee that aims to bring IT in the mainstream and make it accessible to a wider audience in the form of information technology. India is also the leading player in the IT space in the world and among the top 10. It is a global technology and a global market. The Indian IT industry is not large and the IT industry has the potential to become one.

A study by the Central Department of Revenue in 2004 indicates that India is the world’s tenth leading country in IT spending. It is a country with a growing IT industry with 4,944 new projects in IT (information and communication technology) in 2005 according to the National Research Council. In the same year, there were 4,974 IT sector related projects in the NITI Aayog report. The Indian government is providing incentives and support to the IT industry.

The government has provided incentives that include research and development grants, tax incentives, and other financial help towards the IT sector. The government has also provided support on a large scale. The government has invested over INR 5. 15 lakh crores of rupees on IT investments in 2005. It is working with an IT committee which is responsible for IT policy formulation.

This is expected to continue for the next 5 to 10 years. Government has supported a very good number of domestic IT companies. IT companies with international exposure are now making money. It is good for the economy if there is economic growth. The government is also investing more on IT infrastructure, such as roads, etc.

There is a huge potential for the Indian IT industry. There is only little space and scope to develop at a much lower cost than US and EU. Many IT companies around the world have a presence in India. The Indian IT industry is very likely to grow in the next few years.

It is going to be a very competitive industry. Any company that wants to enter the market should have a presence in India.
