I also had an opportunity to interview Airtel’s managing director & chief technology officer, Dr. Akshay Rikhuri. I will share here a summary of the Airtel Xstream launch event and discuss some of the highlights.

Airtel Xstream is a new fiber broadband network in India that is scheduled to launch on February 6, 2018. It will be the first fiber network to be connected in India which is also the fastest one.

Airtel Xstream is the flagship project of Airtel India. It will be built and maintained by Airtel India’s corporate and engineering teams. The project is managed by a well-known consulting company, Airtel Consulting. The project will have 2 Gigabit connectivity at its core and 50Mbps connectivity in metro markets such as Bangalore, Mumbai, Thiruvananthapuram and Delhi.

Airtel Xstream’s main objectives are to provide Gigabit broadband network service to every Indian citizen, and bring connectivity to the people across the country by offering a fast and reliable broadband network to the customers across the country. It will provide a choice of Internet speeds ranging from 10Mbps to 50Mbps, depending on the location of the customer. It will also provide a choice of devices on demand. In addition, it will also facilitate the ability for the customers to choose their own ISP, in order to enhance the broadband access experience.

Airtel Xstream’s goal is to create a broadband ecosystem in India, where the broadband experience is a priority for the customers and is one of the key drivers for economic growth.

Xstream is used for voice calls, gaming, video calls and a number of businesses have already launched on the network with various enterprises including Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Facebook, and many others. The company has stated that it will offer a number of 4G features that will help all business owners to increase their productivity. Airtel Xstream 4G network is powered by Ericsson’s Ericsson GSM1900 and Ericsson’s WCDMA 1900 mobile technology that allows the customers to communicate from anywhere in the world with ease. Airtel Xstream 4G provides up to 100 Mbps of bandwidth and offers a free voice calling feature. Bharti Airtel is the first 4G Mobile Phone Company to launch a voice and data (VOX) data and voice solution that has been designed from the ground up to provide multiple security modes: voice, SMS, and MMS. From a customer perspective, Airtel is also offering a number of additional services such as: Voice, MMS and Data Security to customers throughout the India. To make it possible for customers using multiple security modes, Airtel has developed a unified security scheme to make it easier for them to access their voice over internet protocol (VoIP) data over internet, voice data from MMS and multiple security modes from their voice phone.
