After a tumultuous six years, the VA is trying to move its homeless problem into the past. It has created a new agency, Veterans Integrated Service Networks (VISN), with two teams to provide permanent housing for veterans who are homeless, and it is announcing an expansion of its existing housing vouchers for veterans who are homeless.
It is also trying a new approach to its homeless problem.
The organization has launched a program that provides veterans with a voucher to start a rental in their hometown — a voucher that could be used for $200 per month for housing or $500 for a rental.
