Mahoning Valley Events
* A new program is launching for the Mahoning Valley this month. The new program will be a forum for the public to talk with Mahoning Valley alumni and former residents about their history and future. The focus will be on the Mahoning Valley and the many aspects of the area that provide its history. It will be a chance for the public to learn more about the history of Mahoning County and about the county’s future.
* A variety of events, conferences and activities will be happening in Mahoning Valley this year. These will range from special presentations and symposia to book signings and exhibits.
* The Mahoning County Historical Society will be holding its Annual Book and Poster Festival at the Library in downtown Mahoning Valley in February. This will be a celebration of the county’s local history and will showcase the many places in the Mahoning Valley and the area as a whole. The festival will attract a range of area residents and visitors for the first time. There will be events, programs, exhibits and other activities to go along with the book and poster festival.
* The Mahoning County Historical Society will also be holding an Art and Craft show and sale at the Millinery Center in downtown Mahoning Valley in early February.
* The Mahoning Valley will host a number of events throughout the month of November including the annual fall Festival and the Mahoning Valley Festival of Books.
* The Mahoning County Historical Society will also be holding book signings and events at the County Library in downtown Mahoning Valley in mid-November.
* The Mahoning Valley will have two events in the new year that will be special to the area: a lecture on the history of the Black Hawk War and a town hall meeting on how to revitalize Mahoning Valley.
* There will also be a book fair at the Millinery Center, which will host a variety of local and regional authors. The book fair will also feature local photographers and artists who specialize in local history and area photos. This event is being organized by the Mahoning Valley Historical Society.

The Mill Creek MetroParks are another example of Portland’s increasing involvement with public art and the public sphere. In the 1960s, the City of Portland and Portland Parks & Rec commissioned landscape architects and designers to create a new urban park in East Portland. In keeping with Portland’s urban renewal vision, the City selected the site of the new park to include public art and other elements such as educational and recreational space. In its early years, the park was funded primarily by the City through grants. By 1997, the park, now named as the Mill Creek MetroParks, was fully funded through city tax dollars. The park was originally designed by landscape architect William Ragan. Today, the park is operated by Metro Parks Division, which manages the park’s day-to-day operations. The park’s opening was the subject of a major news story as the first park in the western United States to include public art.

As we approach the end of the 20th Century, it seems that the last few computer companies are making an effort to take it for granted that we’ll still be using computers at some time in the near future. It’s part of the growing backlash against the rise of the digital age. The Apple I is not an historical artifact. That means we’ve got to do our best to figure out what went into it. The hardware and software design was not very involved. The most important computer hardware that has survived from the early days of computer history is the Apple I. A cell phone number might represent a phone number, email address could represent a contact, a zip code could represent a street address, a currency value could represent an amount or a quantity, a time difference between two events might represent a time interval, among many others.
The answer is simple. We put it in a container object.
