The graphics card market as we know it will see a significant increase in demand and is expected to reach $13 billion in 2021. This is where the prices of graphics card brands will see a rapid decline because as prices drop, it brings additional profits for the graphics card makers and they can afford their purchases. However, the same situation should not happen in the other markets such as notebooks.
The graphics cards market in 2021 to the first half of 2021 will see the lowest prices for graphics cards available to the public and the fastest growth of the whole graphics card market. This is due to the fact that the graphics card manufacturers as well as the vendors are making the decision on where to compete for the market by making the decisions on where to produce graphics cards in the first place.
In the first half of 2021, the graphics card makers will begin selling their cards in the form of both low and medium speed cards at a much lower price. The low and medium speed cards will be priced in the $800 to $1000 range. These cards will be the high capacity and the higher end machines where there is usually a smaller form factor.
By the end of 2021, the cards will be available in the high performance graphics card market where the graphics card makers will be offering their high capacity and high end machines. As the graphics card manufacturers and the vendors are creating these high capacity and high end machines in the first half of 2021, there will be a greater demand for these high capacity graphics cards from the consumers.
The overall graphics card market in 2021 is expected to reach the $13 billion mark, thanks to the fast growth of gaming laptops and higher end computers.
Before we get into the prices of the graphics cards in 2020, let’s first discuss the prices of graphics cards available in 2019.
The price of second-hand GPUs
Introduction: A new report suggests that more than half the new PCs sold in the market are manufactured using a second-hand GPU.
The rise of second-hand GPUs is a problem because these GPUs, even if they were perfectly well made, were still too expensive for a mainstream PC. On the other hand, the second-hand GPUs are probably not always perfectly well made, so the problem is not so easily solvable. A new report by Gartner, a marketing and research firm, suggests that more than half the new PCs sold in the market are manufactured using a second-hand GPU. This is in spite of the fact that the main selling point of the new PCs is the upgradeability (in case of an upgrade, the main selling point of the current system would still be its performance), and hence the market was already moving away from older PCs to newer models and the trend towards second-hand PCs should be reversed.
The paper, “New PC Manufacture of Second-Hand GPUs: The Potential Impact on Product Lifecycle and the Future of Personal Computers,” by David L. Walker, an analyst with IDC (The IDC, July 1, 2007), is a fairly technical paper, but nevertheless it does provide some solid information.
The graph below plots the price (in US$) of the new and the used PCs over time. The new PC is the one with a second-hand GPU, the used one is the one that was originally manufactured with a GPU and the prices in green are the prices for the previous generation of the PC. The price of the new PC has been decreasing. The price of the used PC remains constant or increases slightly.
The price of the second-hand (new or used) PC has dropped over the last three years. However, the price of the current generation of PCs has grown considerably. The graph below shows the price of the new and the second-hand PC over the last two years. The price of the second-hand PC has increased significantly, from US$837 to US$1,093.

I have not looked at all the Intel X79 Extreme cards that have been released so far, but there are a few models where the video card was so good that it made it to the top of the list as well. It is the first Intel X79 Extreme that has a native Nvidia GeForce 8800GT GPU for gaming without the need to use a special NVIDIA card, so I will be going into these later.
