The Eighth Avenue Adult Activity Center is a nonprofit organization that helps victims of abuse, neglect and violence in the New York City area find resources in the community that they may not have found anywhere else. The Center is an independent, not-for-profit organization, which means we are not a government agency. We receive no money from any government agency and do not receive any tax monies, grants, or donations and we do not have any expenses listed on our website. The AACA is an independent nonprofit organization.
The activities we offer include counseling, victim advocacy, and outreach into the community to address the specific needs of each victim. We have numerous facilities and locations of operations to offer our services. We have over one hundred volunteers that volunteer and give their time to meet the needs of our victims. The majority of the volunteers are from New York City, which gives the volunteers more of a sense of community because they are from the greater metropolitan area. When someone is seeking assistance, we offer referrals for a variety of programs.
The AACA is housed in a unique facility and is also open to the public. While the AACA is often used as an emergency shelter for victims of abuse, neglect, and crime, our services are offered on a day-to-day basis to those seeking assistance with these types of issues.

A couple of months ago, I found myself on a flight from Oakland to Los Angeles. It wasn’t a very good flight. As a matter of fact, it wasn’t even a particularly good one, because I was sitting in the middle seat of a five-seater with my wife.
And there is nothing worse for a passenger than a seat where no one is talking.
So it makes me glad to be a passenger on another very bad flight and to have my wife as a passenger with me. She was in the aisle, behind me, and there were only about eight of us in the seats behind us, three people. So we had the most comfortable section of the plane to ourselves. It’s like being in the cockpit of an airplane.
We all sat there without talking, just staring silently out of the window.
Except it was not boring.
The plane was full of a crew of two, and two people kept talking into their headsets (the first one was the captain, and the second was the co-pilot).
“No,” the other person replied.
“Then we’re all in the forward section,” the captain said, and continued.

I looked out of the window, and there was a sign indicating the exit point for the runway. But we were just the right distance from their exit, so I didn’t dare to move.
So the plane continued flying for at least another five minutes, to and from L.

BASIC – the language of the computer, the first computer language ever! It was created by IBM’s Artificial Intelligence Branch in 1959 as a simple language to write “basic” computer programs. BASIC allowed programmers to write programs for a very simple machine that used only basic instructions. Then when IBM released its new and much more powerful ATcomputer in 1961, BASIC quickly became a useful language to write programs for machines with more capability.
Because of its simplicity, the basic language soon became an ideal language to write programming programs for many different types of machines.
Now for those who don’t know BASIC is a simple language based on one character. When you type in the “b” it puts your cursor on the “b” and then executes the next character, “b”. It is like typing “b” and pressing the “m” key. It is so simple, you can program it on a PC. You just don’t feel the need to write complex programming language because the computer is able to understand your basic programming.
The first computer language released in 1959, BASIC (Binary Assembler) consisted of one character, “b”, “b” as the first character to execute the next instruction from the next row. BASIC stands for “Basic Assembler” and is the basic language used by many computer systems. It was released in IBM’s Artificial Intelligence Branch (AIB) for the IBM-360 at a time of great excitement for the new technology of the computer.
It was one of the first computer languages ever to be released. IBM had a new computer, the IBM-360 , called the “Big Blue”, in 1959. AIB started development and IBM was working on their new computers.

“I don’t know the exact date,” said one of the few remaining members of “The Real World” who had played a part in the musical’s revival, “but the playbill was about to be taped.
For a few minutes, it was. The Real World cast would make that fateful first appearance, a four-hour-long Broadway musical that would play more than 20 previews, only to go on to gross $25 million at the box office. The producers were hoping that the show’s star, actress/comedienne/singing sensation Lauren Graham, would be in it at least one night, and be on-set in the wings, taking care of business. “Realworld,” which played the Winter Garden Theatre, opened to much fanfare from the public and press. It was a moment of hope for the struggling “Real World” franchise, which came to an end after just 20 minutes of previews. But in the hours leading up to midnight, rumors spread that the future of the show was far less secure.
Some believed the show was being cancelled. A few others, however, felt it was being revived, and were preparing for the best to come. A few were upset it hadn’t been cancelled in the first place. Some were just hoping the cast and crew were playing around on set, for some strange reason, and maybe something would come of it. In those minutes, however, the playbill changed. A few days after the production opened, the cast was still on-set, just getting ready for the big night. And even though the cast wasn’t expected to play any more, they had to get back to rehearsals.
“At that point, everyone seemed to think that it was time,” recalled one of the original Real World cast members, who did not want to be identified by name. “I just thought it would be a great time to come back.
