One of the more high-profile announcements at EVO 2016 was the HTC Vive Pro 2, a pair of virtual reality headsets that offer two times the resolution of the original Vive Pro, but with more than twice the graphics detail, 30 FPS (FPS) lag, and 1080p60 support. We’ve spent the past few months taking a look at the new HTC Vive Pro 2, and it’s clear that the new design and high-end gaming performance makes the Vive Pro 2 stand out among the rest of the headset line-up.
While the original Vive Pro VR headset is still one of the most popular headsets around, its high price point and limited specs are a deal-breaker for most VR enthusiasts. When it was announced that a Vive Pro 2 was coming, I got excited. Although one of the most expensive headsets on the market, the Vive Pro was still an excellent and worthy VR headset, and with the Vive Pro 2, this VR enthusiast now has a truly impressive, powerful, high-end gaming headset that will take his or her game to another level no matter how they play.

An Oculus Rift headset that’s connected to a gamepad that can also control the game.
A headset that can handle higher frames-per-second (FPS) video than previous Vive Pro headsets, so gamers can enjoy the full experience of high-end VR gaming.

Although both companies are now trying to get new projects off the ground, they are keeping their products affordable.
Virtual reality has taken it’s first jump to the mainstream market, which is no surprise considering how easy it is to use, which means that most people have had experience with it. Although virtual reality has been a hot topic, the games market is still small.
There is one company which has shown that virtual reality games are definitely a mainstream genre. Peerless has developed a brand new VR game which goes into space, taking the concept one step further.
The cost of the HTC Vive Pro 2 headset
HTC has announced that the Vive Pro 2 headset is now available for pre-order. For the first time, the headset will be priced at $799 USD, $100 USD cheaper than the original Vive Pro, and $299 USD more than the HTC Vive Pro. The headset is priced lower because the Vive Pro 2 has a new wireless module and a wireless module for the Nintendo Switch controller. The Vive Pro 2 is designed to be cheaper to produce than the original Vive Pro, which we first covered in our review.
We reviewed the HTC Vive Pro a while back and were impressed with the design and features of the hardware. That was until we learned that the Vive Pro 2 had a new wireless module for the Nintendo Switch controller, and a redesigned VR headset with a more comfortable form factor. We’ve gotten confirmation from multiple sources, including HTC, that the headset that retails at $200 USD is the same headset that retails today for $449 USD. This means that the Vive Pro 2 headset is now available to purchase.
The Vive Pro 2 headset is still not available for purchase, but it’s making its way to retailers. The retail price of the Vive Pro 2 headset is now $299 USD. That’s a $100 USD cheaper price than the original Vive Pro, and a $100 USD more expensive price than the HTC Vive Pro, but the Vive Pro 2 can still fit in the hand of someone looking to get the most out of a VR headset.
HTC has confirmed that the Vive Pro 2 headset is now available at various retailers. We have a list of retail locations that HTC is currently working with, but we couldn’t confirm any additional retailers. We’ll update this post when we have more information on new retailers selling the Vive Pro 2.

Should you buy the HTC Vive Pro 2?
If you’re the sort of person who spends the majority of his or her time indoors in front of a computer, it’s probably a given that you’ll be a fan of HMD Vive. There’s simply nothing better than a VR headset that can deliver the sort of immersion that a computer gaming machine can.
Well, this is the sort of problem that we’ve had with our VR headset, and our solutions aren’t exactly pretty.
There’s quite a lot of interest in virtual reality, but it’s still not quite the standard that it needs to be. And that’s why it’s very important for HTC to continue with its development of the HTC Vive Pro 2. What it needs right now is some better support from the software team that HTC has been working with to enhance the overall experience.
As we’re going to look at the experience on the Vive Pro 2 in more detail later in the guide, we’re going to need to take a look back over what we’ve already discussed in our previous posts, as well as a brief look at what’s coming for Vive Pro 2. We’ll start at the beginning, although it’s worth highlighting that if the HTC Vive Pro 2 is going to offer as much immersion as we think it will, it’s also going to require a fairly large investment. The price of the Vive Pro 2 is a lot more than the $500 and that’s why we think the overall experience will be a lot better as players will have to commit to a long period of time to actually get their hands on one of these headsets.
The Vive Pro 2 is quite a big headset, so you’re going to be able to see how things are going to work in practice on a very small screen.
