New-For-The-Industry Dodge Charger Proves Safety Measures Work
As the 2013 Chrysler Pacifica hybrid car debuts, Dodge is using its new-for-the-industry Dodge Charger to prove the safety concerns people have with gas-powered vehicles are unfounded.
Dodge says its new-for-the-industry Dodge Charger shows safety measures are working and that the new Charger is “perfectly tuned” for safety.
Dodge has an exclusive deal with Toyota that grants Dodge the right to design, test, and market the new-for-industry, hybrid Toyota Land Cruiser. In addition to providing the new-for-the-industry technology, Dodge is providing the new hybrid technology for Toyota.
“Toyota has always been great partners and partners that build the best vehicles and their people are well-trained to go to work every morning and do what they need to do to develop the best vehicles in terms of safety,” said Steve Stumpner, senior manager of Dodge Brand Marketing, in a statement.
Under the exclusive agreement with Toyota, Dodge is expected to sell 5,000 new Dodge Chargers in North America.
Dodge isn’t the only company focused on proving the safety of gas-powered vehicles.
Dodge says it has partnered with the American Society of Automotive Engineers and Toyota to introduce new-for-the-industry technology on the redesigned Camry. That technology will be provided to the automaker’s dealers as part of the new-for-the-industry Dodge Charger, which was introduced in November at the 2014 Detroit auto show.
“The Charger is a perfect example of our philosophy of getting the best technology in the shortest time possible,” said Stumpner. “In our view, it’s the best hybrid car to have so far. It’s designed to be extremely easy to drive, it’s fun to drive and so far no accidents have been reported.
While the announcement of the new-for-the-industry Dodge Charger indicates safety is the Dodge Chargers’s target, there is no guarantee of it being 100 percent safe.
Dodge acknowledges that other automakers may have different philosophies to what they use for their safety features in their cars. And the Charger likely won’t be safe for everyone.

While the increasing number of vehicles with electronic navigation systems has generated a large demand for safety-enhancing electronics, a major barrier to widespread acceptance of electronic navigation systems is the lack of adequate systems architecture. In this paper we present an architecture for safely developing and maintaining a system for effectively and efficiently tracking vehicles in urban and suburban areas. We also present a methodology for designing a system for an electronic vehicle navigation system which makes use of an advanced sensor fusion method developed for our research. Our findings indicate that the proposed architecture is able to track vehicles without any significant performance deterioration compared to a similar system employing only the navigation and vehicle image processing. Our results show substantial gains in both range and speed, and the safety benefits from the use of advanced vehicle recognition and tracking.
