Software was highly profitable, driven by our strong gross margin and solid EBITDA growth (see below). Although we continue to focus on improving our product offerings, we’ve also made many structural strategic investments over the past four years to drive additional growth in the space. The company continued to report a net loss from continuing operations of $6,664,082 in the fourth quarter of 2018 and a GAAP loss of $6,664,082, which should be excluded from financial results as management’s intent is to continue to invest in the company’s technology and talent to drive positive financial performance. As a result, we estimate that in the first full quarter of fiscal 2021 it will be appropriate to include a non-cash gain of $5,849,872.
Marin Software Announces the Estimated Preliminary Second Quarter 2021.
MARIUS SOFTWARE AG, the leading provider of cloud-based software solutions, today announced the estimated Preliminary Second Quarter 2021 financial results. The full-year 2020 results are expected in the second half of 2020, followed by an annual report, financial outlook, and a detailed investor presentation for the period.
Second Quarter revenue was down 3. 7% in the first six months of 2020 from the second half of 2019 to $18. 02 million, resulting in a year-over-year (Y/Y) contraction of 2. This was driven primarily by significant reductions in fixed-price paid customer services revenues, which grew 6% year-over-year (Y/Y).
For the first six months of 2020, software sales declined by 9. 9% annually to $18. 92 million, while software licenses increased by 1. 5% Y/Y to $2.
Revenue for the second quarter of 2020 was $18. 02 million, up significantly from the second half of 2019: $13.
Non-GAAP financial measures
James Givens, a professor of finance and accounting at the University of California, Berkeley, was the lead author of the study.
The study estimates that approximately one month after the implementation of GAAP, non-GAAP measures will result in an increase of $6. 8 million to $24. 1 million in revenue for the Software industry, with additional costs of $7. 4 million to $25. 0 million, which will not offset the revenue from GAAP.
According to Givens, “Non-GAAP measures such as the net operating income, net asset value and net asset value–related revenues are generally more appropriate measures of performance that include some accounting effect related to the company’s growth, rather than absolute results.
“On balance, these new non-GAAP measures seem to be of limited utility to measuring the performance of software businesses,” Givens concluded.
Givens conducted the study from April through June 2016 to compare GAAP with the newly implemented non-GAAP measures.
The study found that non-GAAP measures provide a more accurate measure of the current situation of a company’s performance. The study also found that while GAAP is a good measure of performance when considered over the entire year, it is of limited usefulness when used individually.
GAAP non-GAAP measures have been developed to assist accounting firms in preparing financial statements in accordance with GAAP. This study looked at the change that has happened to non-GAAP measures between GAAP and the newly adopted non-GAAP measures.
GAAP measures do not recognize certain accounting relationships, such as depreciation expense and inventory change, which the non-GAAP non-depreciation measures do, because the GAAP reporting standards already require non-GAAP measures to be derived from the same underlying financial data.
