[Abstract] High-performance data networks can alleviate the need for large and expensive data centers such as satellite deployment or networked warehouses. For example, networks with dense connectivity and scalability can provide access to the huge storage and bandwidth resources not available in a traditional office setting. Furthermore, deploying these networks can reduce the cost of both hardware and software, which in turn reduces the need for skilled employees and support personnel. This paper describes Parsec, a system for enabling the rapid and high-performance building of distributed, hybrid architectures of enterprise networks. Parsec is composed of two components: a hybrid framework, composed of a data network and an interconnection framework, and a set of software components. This hybrid network architecture is designed to enable hybrid business models that leverage a cloud-based infrastructure and require networked, distributed compute resources. Using Parsec, a highly scalable and secure data network is built through a hybrid deployment of the Parsec framework, interconnection framework and a set of software components. This deployment enhances the performance of an enterprise network with a high degree of redundancy and fault tolerance. The paper discusses the design and implementation of the two components of the Parsec framework, the interconnection framework and the data network, including their interconnection topology and network architecture. The Parsec architecture is configured to support a hybrid network platform with a high degree of redundancy and fault tolerance. An example application is described showing how this hybrid network platform can be used to support the deployment of a multi-workstation business application. The paper also describes how to use the Parsec framework to deploy the Parsec data network and interconnection framework within a traditional network environment, such as a data center. So says Alan P. Green, publisher of a successful trade journal on management, and author of “The New Manager’s Survival Guide”. In his latest book, “How to Get the Job You Want”, Green suggests that getting a job in management positions you for life.

In these times of economic, financial and organizational uncertainty, he says, “You must have the same commitment to the organization – that you want to work for the long haul. You must have the same discipline, you must have the same outlook – that you’re willing to work as much as you can to achieve your objectives.

Employees that work as much as can be achieved in the job market are likely to have better career outcomes. They have higher morale and an ability to concentrate on the task at hand, but they also have a higher likelihood of going elsewhere for a position.

What are some of the career prospects of a manager with a good career and a “good” job? “I think it’s a fair and reasonable question,” Green says. “What’s a good job?… The idea that a manager could get a good job in management is just ridiculous – unless that person was actually running the company.

“I thought people were more interested in the idea that they could get good jobs in management,” Green continues. “I just thought it wasn’t realistic, because the only way to get a good job in management is to get one in management.

He suggests that the best job in management positions a person for life – not just for a period of time. The great majority – or even all – of managers, he believes, are still in their late working years.

“I don’t have any great answer to this question,” he says. “I just wanted to make my point about people who want to be management.

While the new version of Microsoft’s Office suite is still relatively new and a little buggy, I thought it would be helpful to review the Office suites that preceded it, since I’m pretty familiar with them.

The first and simplest suite was the “Business” suite, which was called “WordPerfect”, with only a couple of Office versions included: Word and Excel, but no WordPerfect. There was no Visual Basic programming in the Office suite, and the Visual Basic programmer was responsible for converting this to the C++ language used by Visual Basic, but the idea behind the Visual Basic language was that you would write some VB code with Visual Basic then build your solution in Visual C++, which is almost as simple.

In fact, the Visual Basic and VB developers themselves used VB in the Visual Basic Office suite to develop the Visual Basic language for the Visual Basic Office suite. It is difficult to find a single application that did not use VB in Visual Basic programming.
