New Workforce Development Program Will Allow Fort Smith Business Leaders an Ability to Meet the Needs of the Local Market.

FORT SMITH – Today, Fort Smith Business Leaders welcomed newly created Fort Smith workforce development program, “Fort Smith Business Council for Workforce Development (BSBWD)” with their thanks and appreciation. The Fort Smith-based business community welcomed the new program with enthusiasm and encouraged Fort Smith business leaders to participate in this new program which will greatly enhance their ability to meet the needs of the local market.

“The BSBWD is really a program that is designed to improve the market for business in Fort Smith,” said Scott Woodard, president and founder of Fort Smith-based Woodard Construction. “There are several reasons why we are so appreciative of this program. One reason that we are so enthusiastic about this program is because we see a tremendous need for workforce development in Fort Smith. ” Woodard Construction is the owner of several buildings on the Fort Smith Downtown Business Alliance Commercial District in Northwest Fort Smith. Woodard currently has 15 buildings in the district with about 800 employees.

“Our own business needs, while growing, are not as critical as it should be across a big city like Fort Smith. To have a market for our own business we would, therefore, like for Fort Smith Business Leaders to have access to our own workforce development program,” added Woodard.

The BSBWD was originally formed in January 2016 as part of a larger community engagement project to improve Fort Smith’s business environment. The goal of the larger community engagement effort was to identify people and organizations that can help shape the business environment of Fort Smith into one that is focused on economic opportunity for all people.

“The BSBWD is a very unique program, I would say, for Fort Smith. It’s not just the program it’s the way it’s structured. The BSBWD is one of the few programs – that we know of – to provide workforce development programs that address a very specific market focus,” said Michael Green, Fort Smith-based executive director, Council.

The program has nine components – six in one program, three in other programs – each of which will be a focus for its future implementation.

What It’s Like To Work With America’s Most Reputationless Organization.

The Fort Smith Regional Chamber of Commerce is a regional business organization whose main purpose is to provide access to businesses to the public through the Fort Smith area. This access comes in two forms—one by way of membership and others by way of the businesses that the businesses do.

The Chamber has about 150 members that are businesses and trade organizations, including banks, insurance companies, utilities, real estate investment trusts (REITs), hospitals, manufacturing businesses, and several of the local chamber’s own member businesses. These business members are located in different geographic areas of the state that are served by the Chamber.

Fort Smith Chamber is also a member of the state Chamber of Commerce, the Arkansas Chamber of Commerce, the National Association of Home Builders, the Arkansas Hospitality Association, the Arkansas Hospitality & Tourism Association, and the South Arkansas Chamber of Commerce.

While the Chamber’s members are representative of the area businesses that have an interest in the Fort Smith area, there are no dues or fees paid to the Chamber, as a business or trade organization. In fact, the Chamber’s office is located in the same building as the Fort Smith Regional Chamber of Commerce.

With that said, the Chamber of Commerce has come under fire, and the business membership of Fort Smith Chamber is no longer a large majority. In August of this year, they were down about 20,000 members down from a low of 20,000-plus five years back.

This past fall, the Chamber of Commerce announced it is working on a recruitment plan to recruit a membership of about 500. They have recently hired Stephanie Suggs, President of the Fort Smith Chamber and a longtime member of the chamber’s board. Suggs, who is also the Executive Vice President of the Arkansas Chamber of Commerce, is known for her advocacy for businesses in Arkansas, and, as the Chamber’s Vice President of Workforce Development, she was the one who put the Chamber Chamber on the map in business.

A Conversation With Ann Brackin, Software Developer of the Year at the 2007 Code Camps.

A highly respected and experienced developer, author, and speaker Ann Brackin took part in the 2007 Code Camps, taking part in both the Enterprise and Individual components of the program.

Ann Brackin: “The Code Camps were not a very large event. We did two hours of presentations on a standard Friday at a hotel. It was a pretty small group of people. So the program is what they are known for. The whole event is about developer networking. At the same time that it’s great for the developer because it’s the place where they can meet the developers in the area. The developers come together for the whole weekend of the event and talk about the latest software development technique and learn from all the great technical minds.

“Some of the programmers go out there and speak about the latest techniques in new languages. They like to try to learn Java, and Python, and JavaScript. They have meetings and things like that. The whole thing is a community. The developers come together. The developers come together to have fun. There is always a lot of food and drink, and a lot of fun, but there is also a lot of networking. A lot of other conferences are going on right near the venue of the Code Camps, so there is a lot of support, and a lot of opportunities.

There are a lot of people trying to get into this industry. And there are also a lot of people trying to get the skills needed to be a developer. But for me, there is a lot of opportunity and a lot of support for me to learn from the best developers and try to do exactly what they are doing.

“As an industry leader in software development, I think we have learned a lot from our industry. I think the technology has changed a lot over the last 25 years.
