One of the most exciting aspects of the recent global economic recession has been the explosion of digital and communications technologies, such as the Internet, cloud computing and social media. This trend has been coupled with a surge in the adoption of customer collaboration and data-driven decision-making. The resulting shift in corporate thinking is reflected in the recent transformation of Deloitte and Palo Alto Networks, whose transformation into the world’s premier consulting firm for digital transformation began in 2009. As a result of these new strategic directions, Deloitte and Palo Alto Networks have developed a new global digital strategy that involves a greater focus on the customer perspective in digital transformation. The following case study illustrates how Deloitte and Palo Alto Networks have collaborated to make a significant step to align their existing digital-specific services with this core customer perspective. During the first six months of 2009, Deloitte and Palo Alto Networks formed the Deloitte & Palo Alto Networks Foundation, a non-profit organization that is providing support for the development of an integrated approach to customer digital transformation. In this article, we present an overview of the Deloitte and Palo Alto Networks Foundation, including how the organization has developed and leveraged its existing customer services offerings to build a more agile digital-specific digital transformation strategy.

The Deloitte & Palo Alto Networks Foundation (DPNF) emerged from the joint efforts of Deloitte and Palo Alto Networks. We aim to develop a new digital strategy that will drive and integrate the organization’s existing global-scale digital offerings: Deloitte & Palo Alto Networks Digital Innovation and Deloitte Digital Enterprise. Through its strategic partnership with Deloitte, DPNF will leverage the strengths of the two organisations’ capabilities to further support the transformation of the business into a company focused on customer digital strategy. To achieve this aim, DPNF will work with leading companies in the digital economy to align its operations with customer expectations to support the digital transformation of the company.

Alliance of Deloitte and Palo Alto Networks for zero-to-no-trust and multi-cloud cybersecurity.

The Cybersecurity and Internet Security Alliance of Deloitte and Palo Alto Networks (CISA), a subsidiary of Deloitte Financial Services, has signed a partnership agreement with the University of Washington in Washington, DC, to develop a new Cybersecurity and Internet Security Alliance Academy curriculum for high school students, modeled on the CISA Cybersecurity and Information Assurance program, aimed at developing technical skills, business skills, and ethical citizenship.

The curriculum will focus on three major areas: the information technology (IT) security field, network security, and cybersecurity for the cyber-physical systems (CPS).

The newly created partnership is the first such partnership between a private higher education and industry association and a public higher education institution to focus on the education and work of an entire profession. CISA is the industry leader in the cybersecurity field, with a membership of approximately 50% of global security intelligence providers, including the World Health Organization, The Royal Bank of Scotland, Intel, Cisco, the United States Department of Homeland Security, and Microsoft. CISA’s membership in the association is also open to other industry leaders or organizations and organizations from the private sector.

The new partnership between Deloitte and the University of Washington is a new innovation in the higher education partnership arena. The partnership is designed to build on the success of the CISA Cybersecurity and Information Assurance program, in which the University of Washington and Deloitte, a subsidiary of Deloitte, partnered in 2004 to produce a curriculum on Information Assurance training designed to develop skills in, knowledge and competencies for information assurance. The CISA Cybersecurity and Information Assurance curriculum and the new partnership create a new model for curriculum development, which includes a new generation of education, new collaboration and collaboration among faculty and students, and new opportunities for the public sector to apply for funding.
