Comcast Corporation plans to expand its workforce in the engineering role across the organization in a new program designed to help front-line engineers develop the technical skills they need to succeed in the technology industry.

Comcast has long been a leader in building its workforce with a talent pipeline that can be tailored to meet the specific needs of its business priorities and business units. That approach has worked for decades, and with the announcement of a second program — this one in software development — the company’s engineering talent has become even more highly sought after.

“For a long time in the past, there just wasn’t a talent pipeline that is specific for the engineering skills that our business actually was looking for,” says Jeff Johnson, vice president of engineering. “Now it’s an extremely strong pipeline, and we’re looking for engineers to fill a variety of roles.

The new technology engineering talent pipeline is a major shift in Comcast’s strategy for filling positions in its engineering team, which for the past few years have been dominated by traditional software engineers on the front lines of building products, building software, and building the business.

The new program is part of Comcast’s broader effort to position the technology sector as a growth industry, with engineers as one of the key growth drivers expected to drive the next 20 years of economic growth, according to Johnson.

Comcast Grows to Code : Train Frontline Employees to become Software Engineers

“The first step in becoming a Software Engineer is to have a good understanding of the software industry and the software development life cycle – the steps that are required to become a Software Engineer. To get started with software engineering you will need to read the following: Software engineering is a field that encompasses many different disciplines that develop software by applying software development techniques. You may be required to take some courses to obtain a degree in Software Engineering or Software Development. Software Engineering is an engineering discipline that involves the design and construction of software. It is different than programming which involves creating software.

I received a letter from Comcast stating that I was placed on leave and they told me that I was unable to work at the Comcast location while I was on leave. My company was not informed of this happening and I did not receive any notification from them. This is a very disappointing situation. I have worked at Comcast for many years and all of these problems should have been taken care of by Comcast by now. I would like to know if this is something Comcast is aware of and will take these steps. Can you please help me find out how to contact Comcast? I have been laid off from my job with Comcast but I am still seeking work and am looking for work in the software industry. Please email me at matthew. bryan@gmail.

I have a computer science bachelor’s degree that will make me a qualified programmer. My problem is I don’t want to become a programmer because of my technical skills. I want to become an online sales person, a web designer and a website designer. I want to build up my own company, which is something I think will be easy and enjoyable. My biggest fear is that I will make poor use of my degree and I’ll end up in the software engineering field. I love technology and I’m excited about the future.

I’ve been researching different jobs and companies that I could do. I’m just starting my online selling career because I would like to someday become a business owner, and am currently looking for work. I’m a newbie in the field of online selling and want to make a good start at the beginning before going into more serious matters of my own.

A conversation with Shelina Mwaipopo at Comcast Cable

Shelina Mwaipopo speaks with Jeff Wilson about the launch of Comcast’s first ever “BroadBand Genie” and why it may be the smartest move Comcast has made in its history.

As a kid of the late 70s and early 80s, I was lucky enough to have parents who would take me to the mall with them and show me movies. I remember sitting there with them, watching movies and laughing and having this sense of wonder and excitement about the way they saw the world.

What I did not understand at the time was how that sort of sense of wonder and excitement got turned into a sense of wonder and excitement about technology. I didn’t realize that all of the stuff computers brought us was actually the result of technology. A friend of mine who grew up on a farm described how he, growing up, could pick up a phone while his dad was working, and go on their long journeys back home. He told me that one of his earliest memories was watching VHS cassettes of movies on the VCR in his mom’s home.

What was not part of his childhood was how the technology of the time could make so much more sense than I was able to at the age of 13. Today, as a developer, our brain is programmed to not be so intuitive. It’s a part of us that we don’t even realize gets trained into it, and it has been trained into us. It sounds dumb, but it is something that we are taught. Not so much a lesson to do with computers, but rather a lesson that goes back to the very early days of childhood. It is a feeling, a sense of wonder that comes form the feeling of being connected, being surrounded by technology, being aware of what’s possible and how things are connected to our world, and being aware of how it is a tool for something else.

Now imagine that you walk into your parent’s living room, and instead of watching a movie, you go to your phone and it is full of all of these things that you can do, things you can do with it. Now imagine that every time you call, it is a different phone number that you dial. That your caller ID is different.

When I was younger, I hated cell phones. I was a teenager. I had a dumb, unresponsive phone. I thought it was a bad idea. My mom’s old boyfriend (from the neighborhood), had one. He bought it for me from a Radio Shack. I had a lot of friends there. I was there all the time. I don’t think I ever used one of them. Now, there are kids using cell phones, but I don’t see that many of them. And I do see them: teenagers.

Here’s how it works.

The first thing you do when you open a cell phone is check the number. If it has a signal, it’s good. But if not, dial the phone yourself and ask the operator to “ring” it. The operator will check the number from a list of pre-configured numbers, and if it rings, she’ll probably say, “that’s not a valid number. ” Unless it’s dialing a landline, and that’s not a landline—they’ll usually say you’re not listening to the phone.

As I got older, and learned that dialing a phone was so unimportant, I got used to it. So I didn’t mind it anymore. In fact, I found it a pleasant experience. I did use phone apps—a lot—and I didn’t mind the phone number. But my phone was a stupid phone. The screen was a mess; I couldn’t see where I was or what my finger was doing. And I liked knowing that I could call the operator.

When I moved into my condo a few years ago, I thought it would be nice if I could use the phone, which I had moved into the wall in the master bathroom, as a “wall phone,” using a cordless phone that didn’t require a phone number. I thought my roommate would love me for it (and, for that matter, we would love to share the phone with our friends).

Tips of the Day in Software

“We’re the world’s most advanced software.

Michael Czarnik is widely considered one of the world’s most important developers of web-based software. Michael’s work helps us think more clearly about “software” as an object that we can think about and do real work with.

“When talking about software, I will speak about the web, because that’s what software is: a web and a web service that goes there. If you want to talk about software as a piece of technology, like a database or a web service, you want to talk about the interface between the objects and what the objects do. In the software we have, we are talking about the web in this sense. It’s the interface between the objects and the data. It’s an actual protocol for what they’re actually doing.
