On October 11, 2018, the Cayuga Medical Center and a local law firm, Kiely & Associates, LLP, filed a complaint in state court alleging that the medical center was breached by the National Football League (NFL). The suit was brought against the NCAA, the University of Louisville, and two universities. The university denied any wrongdoing and referred the case to the Department of Education (DOE) while the medical center sued the NFL. The sports leagues are accused of conducting illegal experiments on high school athletes and others.

The NFL has a responsibility to protect the health of athletes and the privacy and security interests of medical centers that conduct medical research.

“The National Football League is aware of the allegations made in the complaint; we are conducting a thorough investigation and will continue to vigorously defend the rights and interests of our athletes, employees, and our partners.

In response to the complaint, the Department of Education issued a statement on Wednesday (January 25th) explaining: “Numerous legal issues relating to the NCAA’s compliance policies have recently arisen, and the Department is not aware of the results of the investigation at this time.

The Department of Education has yet to decide whether the NFL will take disciplinary action against the NCAA.
