BSNL Broadband business: A strong prospect for the company

“Given its history of being first in the telecom sector, the network service provider BSNL is a prime contender for telecom businesses. ” BSNL today plans to launch BSNL Broadband (BSNL Broadband), an all-India satellite broadband operator, to replace the company’s legacy broadband business. The move to create a new global business, which is expected to have an annual turnover of US $7 billion by the end of 2017, is one that is expected to change the telecom landscape and take BSNL by storm in a big way. The new business has been dubbed ‘BSNL Broadband’ to give emphasis on the fact that BSNL is not just a satellite service provider offering access to broadband internet.

The company was launched in 2000 with a launch cost of ₹2. 5 crore and an annual turnover of more than ₹1,50,000 crore. Since then, the company has grown to become the second largest provider of broadband internet service in India. The company’s revenues grew to a staggering ₹5 trillion in 2014, an increase of 5 times over the previous year. In addition, the company has been expanding across a variety of verticals and offering products such as telephony, voice over internet and high speed data connections, as well as applications across a wide array of verticals.

In an interview with Network Security, BSNL’s president and chief product officer (COO) said they plan to use the new business for two key objectives — creating a high-speed broadband service offering which could help it dominate the telecom marketplace over the next few years, and increasing its market share in the telecom sector. They expect the new business to give the company a competitive edge in a market dominated by incumbents.

The company plans to give its new business a fresh start with the launch of the new company’s products by the end of the year. It will also be ramping up its R&D, expanding capacity to cover a larger number of rural areas and launching services in other new verticals.

The new business is expected to have an annual turnover of US $7 billion by the end of 2017. Currently, BSNL is the largest provider of broadband internet services in India.
