Developer and publisher comments Battlefield Portal is the first major title from Electronic Arts’ newly formed Origin studio, Electronic Arts will not be an official partner of the game. However, the company is already developing it under the same name and in the same engine, according to multiple sources… Battlefield Portal is supposed to release on October 18, and has been shown in some detail during Battlefield III’s reveal event. During last month’s reveal, EA confirmed that its publisher, Electronic Arts, has partnered with EA XBLA to create a title called Battlefield: Bad Company, and that it would be based on the shooter, but also including several elements of its latest title. Battlefield Portal’s full launch title and first in-universe reveal will likely come in a little over two weeks, according to multiple reports online. Battlefield Portal will have more information on the future of the game to be revealed at PAX East next week.

EA’s Origin has been developing a title in the Battlefield series for nine years. Earlier this month, EA’s announcement of its planned Battlefield title was met with immediate, positive reactions among press and fans alike. Today, developer EA and publisher Electronic Arts have confirmed that Origin has already developed Battlefield Portal, and will be releasing it on October 18 in the US and October 31 in Europe and other territories. EA’s original statement from October’s announcement, which was made by the same company’s founder, Andrew Wilson, indicated that Origin was working with Electronic Arts on the game with the sole purpose of allowing the publisher to “develop it under its own name, and do so in the same engine. ” EA will have the right to publish and distribute the game as part of EA and Origin’s joint work, EA Executive VP of Publishing and Digital Publishing John Koller confirmed during a conference call with reporters this week. “All of our teams are working very closely together for the development of Battlefield Portal,” Koller said. “As a developer, we have nothing but the best intentions for a game that we are excited to develop. I would just like to point out to our community that we respect all of those thoughts and feelings about these developments. We are all working towards the same goal in Battlefield Portal.
