Winds in Wyoming can be hazardous to life and limb. A ” 60 mph “ wind, which may be accompanied by small hail in your immediate area, causes some serious damage. Wind speeds of more than 60 mph can be life-threatening. At least 10% of all major tornadoes occur at wind speeds of over 60 mph.

Even in the best case, winds of 60 mph or more can be damaging to life and limb.

Bent limbs: One to two people are killed every day in such incidents.

Permanent damage: Some reports have reported major tree limbs being blown over trees in a windy downpour.

Bridging damage: A bridge may be blown over in strong winds, or a tree branch, branch, or limb may land in your driveway, breaking all your windows and injuring you or anyone else on the premises.

The term “60 MPH” winds are used for weather conditions in which a meteorological observer may predict a wind speed of 60 miles per hour (100 km/h).

The National Weather Service (NWS) in the U. uses the term “Wind Scale” to give the conditions necessary to detect 60 MPH winds.

To achieve the 60 mph wind classification, a wind speed of at least 60 mph has to be present as a forecast within 24 hours of the meteorological observation, and the winds must be above a certain level.

Wind speeds in the eastern half of Wyoming are between 50 MPH and 60 MPH. In northern Wyoming and the southwest U. , the wind speeds are between 35 MPH and 50 MPH.

The 50 MPH to 60 MPH wind speeds are commonly seen in the winter months.

Somewhere between 45 and 55 MPH, the winds have a tendency to become fairly strong, and these winds are sometimes called “windy”, “windy”, or “stuffy” conditions.

The following wind conditions are commonly seen in western Wyoming.
